have been greatly exaggerated. She may be a wee bit battered and bruised, but she bends and doesn't break.

Most of you probably know her back story but, for those who don't, here's a very brief recap:

The last 2 1/2 years have been absolutely horrendous: family crises, a breast cancer diagnosis and 20 months of treatment for that, bereavements and sorting out her late MIL's estate. As you can imagine, she found it a struggle at times.

Just under a year ago, DZOH began an "inappropriate" on-line relationship with a woman he "met" playing scrabble on Facebook. At the time he was spending most of his time at his mum's house in Nottingham sorting things out and putting it on the market. The on-line relationship fairly quickly progressed to a full blown physical affair. The woman lives in Wales and he would pay her train fare to come to Nottingham to see him. Zombie was fully aware of everything that was going on and tried to do everything she could to save her marriage. He left Zombie in mid-February, first staying in Nottingham before moving in with her in mid-March. He continued to come back to DDS to take Zombie to her hospital treatments. In mid-May he started making reference to coming back to her. He finally did so in mid-August. Two weeks after he came back they went to Kos for a fortnight. Halfway through the holiday he told her that he was leaving as soon as they returned to the UK. Which he duly did on Friday, 13th September.

Zombie went through all the trauma, drama and devastation between October and August. That is behind her. She's relieved that that it is finally over. A few nights ago she realised that she was sitting here completely relaxed and smiling for no reason. It's as though an enormous weight has been lifted from her.

She's currently packing up his belongings, deciding what she needs to replace, etc. He will come with a man and a van in a few weeks time to remove everything. There are obviously other pracicalities to be sorted out but they are doing so in as amicable a manner as possible.

Can Zombie please ask those of you who are Facebook friends with her NOT to say anything publicly on there about any of this.

Onwards and upwards. wink

Just been reading the "scared of winter" thread, terrible lengths people have to go to to stretch their budget, especially with small children.

Our house is high ceilinged too, and early Victorian, very pretty but very unsound environmentally. Luckily DH gets unlimited wood from work to feed the woodburner.

I hope Zombie is warm and cosy and well insulated, very hard in old house.

Sounds like we have endless badge mischief possibilities!

IamtheZombie Tue 05-Nov-13 20:43:39

Zombie had the roof(s) renewed about 6 years ago. She had them put insulation in while they were at it. That made an incredible difference. The new Aga that was installed 18 months ago also made a difference. She has an open fire in the lounge which hasn't been lit yet this year but probably will be soon! All in all she's about as toasty as she can be.

Zombie's had a most enjoyable evening watching the ZombieCats. She got some catnip spray yesterday and has sprayed some of their toys. They're bouncing off the walls! Highly entertaining. grin

TheDoctrineOfWho Tue 05-Nov-13 20:46:19

I would love a fire!

IamtheZombie Tue 05-Nov-13 21:55:42

Open fires are wonderful, TheDoctrine. Zombie has been known to camp out in the lounge in front of it during extended power cuts. Between that and the Aga (which is oil fired and gravity fed) she was able to keep warm and cook. When she has the first fire of the year, she'll take a picture and post it on here.

TheDoctrineOfWho Tue 05-Nov-13 23:07:37

Aw, thanks, Zombie.

Whenever I go to pubs with fires, I never want to

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Thu 07-Nov-13 09:19:11

Thank goodness the howling wind has dropped.

What else is Zombie planning to do to her house?

IamtheZombie Thu 07-Nov-13 11:53:54

Zombie feels the same way, TheDoctrine.

At this point, Bewitched, Zombie is just concentrating on a major tidy up and deep clean. The poor house really has been badly neglected for the last couple of years. Zombie was so debilitated by the cancer treatments that she was physically unable to do much at all. Also while all of ZOH's furniture and belongings were here it was stuffed to the gills. Now there's space to shift things around so she can do a proper job of it. Most of her pictures are in the basement so she will be bringing those up and re-hanging them.

There are also some repairs / maintenance that she will need to get her friendly builders in to do. She also needs to find someone to deal with the garden.

So, basically that's Zombie sorted with work through the winter. grin

We're going out the stay in the country for the week-end plus maybe a couple of days, not sure what the wifi is like out there.

Have you got anything nice planned?

IamtheZombie Fri 08-Nov-13 18:27:30

Hope you have a wonderful time, Bewitched. Which general part of the country are you going to?

Zombie had a double sausage and egg mcmuffin meal on the way to collect her new TV unit this morning. It weighs a flaming ton! Well not quite but she had to open the box while it was still in the boot of the car and bring it in piece by piece. She'll assemble it tomorrow. This afternoon she had her hair cut. While she was there, she booked a back, neck and shoulder massage for Tuesday.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Sat 09-Nov-13 00:16:01

A lot of the stuff you're doing sounds like it could strain your back - be careful! [bossy]

It's east of Lewes in the Weald, where we lived for 20 years before we moved to Brighton.

It's to do with our business, so it will be a regular thing and lovely for us.

But, we have to give some people some bad news sad so am a bit apprehensive until that's done.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Sat 09-Nov-13 00:19:28

Oh, and good luck assembling the TV.

Then you just have 2 weeks on the phone to get someone to send you stuff to watch!

IamtheZombie Sat 09-Nov-13 21:20:16

Oh, what a lovely part of the country, Bewitched. Sorry about having to deliver bad news. That's always difficult.

Zombie had a very successful and satisfying day. (And, yes, she was very careful!) The new TV unit is assembled, all equipment is now situated where she wants it to be and the rest of the lounge is clean, tidy and as she wants it. So, that's room number one ticked off the list. Assuming she can move tomorrow, she will start on the kitchen.

She's celebrating with some wine, some TV and the first fire of the season. 'Tis bliss.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Sun 10-Nov-13 17:20:28

Yippee, I have cycle powered wifi!

It is really lovely, sunny and cold today, but not windy.

Very weird going to one of our old haunts (pub) for lunch and recognition dawning on people.

We are managing to skirt round the bad news, and the recipients are gradually realising that it's coming, so making the final blow easier.

Well done getting your sitting room sorted, a well deserved celebration.
We're staying in an old windmill with an open fireplace, looking forward to Downton.
Have a day off tomorrow, attack again on Tuesday smile

Santé Zombie!

IamtheZombie Sun 10-Nov-13 23:01:21

YAY to wifi!!

Sounds like a lovely day. How long has it been since you went to that pub?

An old windmill?? Have you checked that Jonathan Creek isn't lurking somewhere? grin Seriously, that sounds absolutely fantastic.

Zombie had a mostly day off day today. She felt OK when she got up but after an hour of clearing things out of the kitchen and doing some washing up so that she can start the deep clean proper her back was really aching. She decided the kitchen would still be there tomorrow and retired to bed with a hot water bottle for a few hours.

She'll see how she feels tomorrow.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Mon 11-Nov-13 15:49:13

I think we were last there about 5 years ago, it's a bit weird that the same old faces are still sitting at the bar. We only ever went a few times a year.

No Jonathan Creek, not that I'd mind. They did film an episode quite nearby though.

Back home now, but we'll be out there most week-ends for a while.

You take care, don't overdo it smile

IamtheZombie Mon 11-Nov-13 21:57:09

Zombie thinks that's one of the nicest things about a real local. You can walk in after years and still know a lot of the people.

Darn. Zombie was going to ask you to send Jonathan her way if you found him.

She won't overdo it. She has learned to listen to her body. She is really looking forward to her massage tomorrow. grin

sanssoleil Mon 11-Nov-13 22:29:07

A proper massage Zombs I am envious and a proper log fire-just wind me up now by talking <cheese> porn wine grin

IamtheZombie Mon 11-Nov-13 22:33:35

It's only neck, back and shoulders, sans. It's on offer and if it's good, Zombie will book a full body massage for next week.

She hopes to go to Ludlow on Friday and visit the market. She'll be ready to talk cheese porn after that. wink

sanssoleil Mon 11-Nov-13 22:38:34

MMmm Cheeese grin go for the full body - I was a new woman! Promise me the cheese porn please smile

IamtheZombie Mon 11-Nov-13 22:44:36

Zombie crosses her heart and hopes to die. You shall have cheese porn. Complete with pictures. grin

sanssoleil Mon 11-Nov-13 22:58:48

Iam complete Zombie <no emoticon does it>

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Mon 11-Nov-13 23:33:16

If I find any Jonathans, I'll send them your way grin

And the windmill is about half a mile from the best goat's cheese farm in the world!

sanssoleil Mon 11-Nov-13 23:49:58

I lived next to a goat cheese convent in the mountains near Bibiana in Italy-I read my set texts to the sound of goatbells-the convent had a trestle table with goat cheese fom this morning to five years ago<nostalgia emoticon>

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Tue 12-Nov-13 00:00:02

What fabulous memories to have sans, I hope you've got photos.

Laughton Log (horrible name I always thought) is rolled in charcoal dust.

sanssoleil Tue 12-Nov-13 00:08:05
