Yup indeedy boris, although being from Swansea you might call it "the little England beyond Wales" but I consider myself one of the lucky few all the same!

noooooooooooo, Pembrokeshire, I remember going out with a boy from Bridgend when I was in Uni, he asked me where I was from and I said Wales, then he asked where and I told him Pembrokeshire, he informed me, none too politely that Pembrokeshire could not be counted as Welsh as it was "the little England beyond Wales" and from then on refused to accept I was indeed Welsh. Now I come to think about it he was a bit odd. We didnt go out for long lol! How is Swansea today?

popped back to add, there are areas of Pembrokeshire that are so welsh its unreal, but a lot of people dont consider us v welsh because really our ancestors are flemish and there was never a Welsh comunity this far west. A bit of boring trivia for you: Welsh has never been the main language of Pembrokeshire despite the fact that some area, Mathry and in the hills etc speak Welsh. So there you go, Lesson over children!

My history teacher would be proud!

Oh see I am never going to get any work done!

My memory is sketchy from my school days but I beleive thats the case, there were a lot of English settlers here too, sent by various Kings to keep a foot in Wales I guess or perhaps they were all kind of pushed this way by the welsh im not sure, Pembroke Castle I think was prominent. Like I say my memory is sketchy but that is why we are not too welshy compared with other areas and why it is quite funny that some of the backwater North Pembrokeshire villages are so very welsh orientated when they have little actual Welsh history.

I am going to get lynched for that remark arent I Wink

Thank goodness for that link Boris! You know what its like when you say something you are sure is true but as you have to explain it you realise that maybe you are talking out of your arse and actually dreamed it all? Well thats what happened to me! But there it is in black and white and other colours so I did retain some knowledge in school!
