Hes sitting next to me atm (and so how come i didnt notice!!!!!!) and is wearing dhs dressing gown as for some reason he thinks it looks good...

I just heard a squeaking noise and he'd tied it round his neck and was choking... I tried to get it off and it wouldnt move and he was panicking.

Had to get sissors and finally got it off.

Then being the calm responsible mother that I am I went and threw up.

He could have died and I didnt notice ShockShockBlushBlush

He seems fine and said he was trying to measure his neck. He is 4.

oh god how frightening

I had a similar thing when dd was wearing a longish scarf and it wrapped round the wheel of her buggy, she was choking and couldn't speak. God it was scary

you did notice and he is fine, kids always do these suicidal things at that age it happens to us all. My ds a couple of times ran ahead of me and tryed to get over balconies and high drops and nearly managed it twice, don't feel guilty, try and calm down and be glad that he is okay now, I know the wanting to be sick feeling when something happens to your child.

well done - you sorted it out and then reacted afterwards. Horrible things happen so quickly don’t they? Sounds like you reacted brilliantly. Give him plenty of cuddles and reassurances and be pleased with yourself for having the quick thinking to cut it off rather than carry on tugging away. Poor thing, hope you are feeling less shaky soon.
My DD has choked next to me before and I was terrified. Natural instinct kicked in and she was fine. Half an hour later when panic all died down, my mum turned up to visit and i broke down in such a delayed shock state!

I walked into the kitchen the other day to find Ds stood with large pair of kitchen scissors open and around his neck and he was just about to try and close them Shock

Dd1 (the one who had left them out) got a right roasting, and I was shook for bloody ages.

Oh yes the things our children do!

Well done you! You sorted the problem and yes you are allowed to be in shock.

You didn't notice because he wasn't "doing anything" really, just playing dress up in daddy's dressing gown.

Fret not my lovely. Smile

Poor you - Reminds me of the time we were coming home from hols & the 'friendly ticket bloke' at the airport gate who was giving sweets out - gave a boiled sweet to DS (3 at the time) - we didn;t see & got on the plane. DS had put the sweet in his mouth & then suddenly started coughing. It had stuck in his throat & only the swift action of DH who didn;t panic - dislodged it. Very difficult in the confines of a plane.

Am still feeling a bit shaky and jump everytime he coughs!

Hes been told off for putting things round his neck (was it wrong to tell him off??)

Give him an extra big cuddle.

Maybe a telling off not a great idea, just more
of a gentle 'that's why mummy doesn't want you putting things around your neck'.

He'll be fine, you'll be fine.

Hugs
xx

Children don't half age us! Poor you, get yourself a glass of something strong! You'll feel shit for the rest of today and tomorrow but then it'll pass and you'll be back to wanting to strangle him yourself! Smile

Mine have never done anything quite like these stories yet, but there's time! I do live in fear of something happening to them. I did a First Aid course 2 years ago and I will renew it as soon as I get back to the UK. It's a useful thing to do!

What a fright Tamba!
I caught DD in the bathroom yesterday che had climbed on the toilet, then on the sink, then on the window sill and was screaming because she couldn't get down. My fault, I'd told her to go up and wait for me to run her bath and i got caught up with putting washing out, she's only nearly 2. Imagine if the window would've been open Shock
