If you receive an email from ebay requesting you to verify your ebay account details, please DO NOT fill in details at bottom of page or click on any links in email. This email is NOT from ebay and is a "spoof" email. Ebay will NEVER ask you to verify any details through email. This email looks real enough, but if you complete the information requested in the email and on the web page that the link takes you to, the real sender of the spoof email will have access to not only your ebay account, but also your email account, bank account and will have your name, address & phone number.

Here is a copy of the most recent scam email that I received this morning, although take note of the "sent" date http://www.truenspirit.com/melise/spoof.htm (sorry still haven't figured out how to do url's on here). As you can see it does look quite real, right down to the privacy policy ect at bottom of page, but I repeat this is NOT from ebay.

If you should receive an email like this, or indeed any other claiming to be from ebay asking you to verify account details, please hit forward on your email program and forward this to spoof@ebay.co.uk so that they can issue a warning to ebay members and also try to track the original sender down.

this contains useful information on spoof emails and what to do should you have mistakingly filled in this email or given information on a link you were asked to click on.

Please keep an eye out and if anyone you know (who doesn't use MN) is an ebay user, please pass this info on to them.

Safe and happy ebaying all

Not sure if this is the same, but I have received an email from paypal - I have NEVER used this service - which is linked to an Ebay address. It asks you to verify your account details. One of the links off was to a Korean website which you had to agree to install in order to have it translated.
DH is going to check it out later, but certainly looks dodgy.
Apologies if it isn't!!!

Yes it is dodgy, another scam doing the rounds.

bluestar is right littlerach. Same goes with Paypal. They will NEVER ask you to verify anything via email. If you still have the email, I would go to the paypal website and see if there is any way to report this (such as contact us section if they don't have a section on reporting "spoof" emails).

I know that fraudulent emails are also being sent out supposedly from your bank asking to verify details. This is the same as ebay and paypal, just some lowlife trying to get their hands on your details so that they can 1. assume your identity and 2. so that they can rip you off

My theory is, if in doubt about an email asking for any verification for anything, go to the website, by typing in the web address of the company (i.e. http://www.ebay.co.uk), DO NOT go to the website by clicking the link in the email. Then if you sign in and it asks you to verify something you will know it is genuine. If it doesn't, then the chances are it is a spoof email, and you should report it to the company that the email is claiming to be from.
