Just out of curoiosity, how much would you be willing (funds permiting) to spend on a new kitchen?

Including sink, double range cooker, fridge freezer, tiles, worktops.....everything?

Haven't done this in a while and we're getting a few quotes

Just had a quote from Ikea of around £600 for their cheapest kitchen. Doesn't include tiles or any appliances though. That's basically the cupboards, worktops, sink and handles.

depends .. will you have to move plumbings?

For completely finished I'd say you could probably do it budget for 5K .. middle-ground 10-15K

homebase / b&q do pretty good quality ... avoid magnet ... don't talk to kitchens direct

get the best worktop you can afford and get tiles you love

I was once told by someone quite high up at B&Q that they would never buy a B&Q kitchen.

I bought a Magnet kitchen for my old flat. I bought it 7 years ago and its still looks new even though its lived in by scummy tennants. I've heard lots of other people say positive things about them too.

Lots of friends have had negative experiences with Ikea.

If no building work is needed, I reckon £4-5k is enough excluding appliances.

Belo, I heard the same about B and Q.

Think that ist's the fitting that can increase the price so much.

I think magnet are overpriced for what they are .. sorry

but I'd use the design planning services of Magnet / B&Q and Homebase and don't hesitate to replan and replan until you're sure its what you want

I know good kitchen fitters in london area ... any use?

Ikea are super :)
Easy to fit yourself too.
Can do very cheaply if you get local builder to quote rather than high street
We had B+Q do one in our flat the installation was extortion, end product looked great but that £6k by the time we tiled and lam flooring put in.
Did it to sell the place though.

We've had 2 quotes from a local firm and from Moben.

Moben said 15.000 ish and that's everything.

Local one said 14.500 for everything apart from work tops and tiles. I was shocked at the local one but not at Moben. Have to say was very impressed with them, they are drawing up plans to show us next week. We're not comitted to any yet of course.

Thanks for replies. Off shopping but will check this out agagin later.

We've just put in B&Q kitchen - done it oursleves (well, I've not done anything!) Think they are fine for selling a house but quality not great. But ours was a cheaper one. Think IKEA ones look great.

Don't even consider Moben - my parents (like many others I believe) had a bad experience with them

I have just had a kitchen fitted by kitchens direct and although it looks gorgeous I think it is sht! Simply because.......

what they fitted the broke, when they refitted it, they didnt screw things in properly, add enough glue etc etc.
We were told they take the old kitchen and any materials they havent used away before they finish the kitchen (it took us nearly 5 wks to get the crap moved from our yard)
We were told it would be delivered and fitted within 2wks. and 6wks on its only just finished.
They didnt put parts of the cooker hood in, they broke the washing machine before it was even used.

All in all it cost us £6500 and it really isnt worth that money!

Dont bother with them

Sad
Oh that is such a pity. I was really impressed by the guy and their designs too! He actualy made the other guy look like a total cowboy. I suppose he was just a good salesman though, wasn't smarmy or pushy at all.

Told dp and he said.........'well they have been wrong yet!' (mumsnetteersGrin)

Am gutted as i had my heart set on it tbh and we want it done pretty quick before the baby gets here.

We had a Moben kitchen, it was fine. The salesman was a total cowboy and tried to sell us a kitchen that did not fit. When the surveyor came round, we redesigned the kitchen, it cost more, Moben honoured the original quote. The fitter was a total professional and did a great job. Actual kitchen was fine.
