What is the creepiest or scariest story you know? I don't care if its true or just an urban legend or story. I am in the mood to be creeped out plus I'm trying not to have to clean. I was driving home from work last night down some dark country lanes and couldn't get the stories about the stick/shadow men things out of my head. V scary!

I remember this one from school:

A young girl named Lisa was left alone on several accounts as her parents worked late. Her parents bought her a dog to keep her company. One night Lisa was awoken by a constant dripping sound. She got up and went to the kitchen to turn off the tap properly. As she was getting back into the bed she stuck her hand under the bed and the dog licked it. The dripping sound continued, so she went to the bathroom and turned off the tap properly in there, too. She went back to her bedroom and stuck her hand under the bed, and the dog licked it again. But the dripping continued, so she went outside and turned off the taps out there. She came back to bed, stuck her hand under it, and the dog licked it again. The dripping continued, drip, drip, drip. This time she listened and located the source of the dripping ? it was coming from her cupboard. She opened the cupboard door, and there was her dog hanging upside down with its neck cut, and written on the window on the inside of the cupboard was, "HUMANS CAN LICK TOO!!!"

But the thing that creeps me out more than anything in the world is the Candyman film. I shuddered just typing that.

Missy, I've heard a variation of that story before.

KatyPeril · 09/01/2013 21:08

I'm going to stay up all night scaring myself by reading these now. Why??!!!

KatyPeril · 09/01/2013 21:09

The thoughts of Shadow/Stick men sacre me more than anything. They're the reason I won't venture out after dark.

littlemisssunny · 09/01/2013 21:11

Why the fuck did I open this thread, my husband is working nights!

I really don't learn!

ClaraBean · 09/01/2013 21:12

I remember that story too. Always scared the shit out of me when I was at school! Slept with my hands inside the covers in case anything should lick them!
Dh is away tonight, and now I will be glued to this thread all night and have to sleep with the lamp on!

littlemisssunny · 09/01/2013 21:13

I'm leaving the light on tonight!
ClaraBean · 09/01/2013 21:13

What is the stick men/shadow men thing?
Is it from the other enormous threads from a little while ago? And I missed it somehow?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 09/01/2013 21:17

I want to know too ClaraBean!

hiddenhome · 09/01/2013 21:19

What's a shadow/stick man?

KatyPeril · 09/01/2013 21:21

Google them. THEY'RE A REAL TERRIFYING THING!!!!

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 09/01/2013 21:22

Oh this one is anoter one that scared me witless as a youngster.

A woman and her boyfriend were on their way home from a date one night, and suddenly his car ran out of gas. It was about one in the morning and they were completely alone in the middle of the nowhere.

The guy stepped out of the car, saying comfortingly to his girlfriend, "Don't worry, I'll be right back. I'm just going to go out for some help. Lock the doors, though."

She locked the doors and sat restlessly, waiting for her boyfriend to come back. Suddenly, she sees a shadow fall across her lap. She looks up to see... not her boyfriend, but a strange, crazed looking man. He is swinging something in his right hand.

He sticks his face close to the window and slowly pulls up his right hand. In it is her boyfriend's decapitated head, twisted horribly in pain and shock. She shuts her eyes in horror and tries to make the image go away. When she opens her eyes, the man is still there, grinning psychotically. He slowly lifts his left hand, and he is holding her boyfriend's keys... to the car.

I am on a scary urban legend site just now, I know every single story on there from about 20 years ago.

expatinscotland · 09/01/2013 21:25

These are supposed to be scary?

InMySpareTime · 09/01/2013 21:27

I write short fiction, there are a few good scary ones here
Particularly "the tailor of stories" and "the strangeling and the lost pencil"

ClaraBean · 09/01/2013 21:27

Oh God! I think I am too scared to google them! I will be fine, and then when I get to bed I will be terrified!
I can't even read Above Top Secret at night on my own
What is it about scary stuff that is so addictive, even when you are a big wuss like me?

sunny you can share my Turkish Delight if you like Grin

ClaraBean · 09/01/2013 21:29

I used to not be scared when I was a kid. I used to see ghost type things (I know, I know, but I have seen a few things I can't explain), even though I am not really a believer.
Now I am older and have dc I am scared of everything, even though I don't see anything any more

hiddenhome · 09/01/2013 21:37

When dh was staying on a retreat, someone came into his bedroom during the night. He thought it was another guest who'd mistaken his room for theirs. The 'person' came across and sat down on his bed. He then put the light on to find no one there. He got up and checked the door and it was locked Confused

littlemisssunny · 09/01/2013 21:43

I know this sounds like nothing but it freaked me out at the time.

Went to stay in some cottages at appuldurcombe house on the IOW in 2011 for my SILs wedding, we stayed in a cottage with one of my other SILs and there was 8 of us. There was 2 cottages together and then others dotted about the site. At night I left the door open as the kids were at the other end of the landing and I wanted to be able to hear them.

It was pitch black at night, and there wasn't lamps in the bedroom so I couldn't leave a light on. I felt really freaked out on the first night and daren't look on the landing when I was in bed, I felt like someone was watching me, a lady.

When we got back I did some research and in the cottage which was attached to ours a ghost of a lady has been seen, I knew nothing about this before I went! My blood ran cold when I read it!

expatinscotland · 09/01/2013 21:48

I was 6 when these murders occurred, but we were still talking about it as Girl Scouts years later.

KhallDrogo · 09/01/2013 21:48

oooo...from the other thread; 'black eyed children'....google if you dare!

SylviaDaisyPouncer · 09/01/2013 21:55

Nooo, not the black eyed children or Stick Men.
I googled them last year in a similar thread.
DO NOT DO IT!

ClaraBean · 09/01/2013 21:55

I am not googling either.

I googled munting once but I'm not googling black eyed kids.

hiddenhome · 09/01/2013 21:58

I searched for stick men, but it doesn't sound too bad. What exactly are these things meant to do to you?

greencolorpack · 09/01/2013 21:59

A friend of mine told me recently, and we were in a creepy place at the time, about a tale of an outbreak of arson attacks somewhere in England, and about the fact that one of the arsonists was caught on a CCtv camera before burning down a house, but in the video he was wearing a mask and if you find this on YouTube it will SHIT YOU UP. The mask is really evil looking and he looks right at the camera. (shudder) Does anyone know what I am writing about?
