I looked

wow

the contrast is amazing isn't it? Some kids seem so spoiled compared to others. But to each of them, it is normal life. The pregnant 14 year old and the outdoor mattress got to me the most :(

Wow.
Amazing photos, I was most disturbed by the camouflaged deer killing Kentucky boy, found that very eery.

But yes, a huge disparity in wealth.

I was wondering about my DC pictures, what they would have said. 'XX lives a sheltered middle class existence in a commuter town'

The first contrast is the hardest - ridiculously overwrought room and then the mattress.

Sad that is so awful, I think the worst one was the girl who lives in a cell at the top of her employers house. in fact they were all pretty awful, even the pageant queen one.

I think the most normal to me one was the boy who liked American football.

Gosh, some really sad ones there. The cell one was horrible, as was the mattress in the middle of nowhere Sad

Think I might show these to DS1 when he moans on about not having x or y in his room.

Gosh.

What's really interesting to me is the balance between necessity (having to sleep somewhere because there's nowhere else) and what's imposed on you according to somebody else's decision (from the cell like accommodation at the top of the house to the princessy/young deer killer, neither end of the spectrum chosen by the child).

what great pictures. heartbreaking. my children are so overpriviledged, with their own rooms, proper beds, toys. poor wee children, especially the ones living over the dump. we are so lucky. phew, am all emotional. thanks for the link,

Yes, definitely one to share with our children when they are moaning

Amazing photos and heartbreaking.

(and on a lighter note you'd think Jamie's parents with all that money might change the carpet in his room!)

There was a thread about this when it was in the Telegraph last year. But it's good to be reminded of it. They are amazing.

Amazing collection of photos. The Nepalese girl who worked as a domestic servant is heartbreaking.

The little boy in Tokyo - his bedroom looks JUST like my boys' bedroom. Right down to the PoohBear and the Game Cube

Wow, what an amazing, though provoking, set of pictures.

The matress in the middle of nowhere got to me the most. Truly awful. And the deer killing hunter gun toting boy's room was disturbing too.

As for the rubbish dump family and the pregnant girl and the locked up domestic worker - very very sad.

Really thought-provoking.

When people asked me with concern if we're going to look for a three bedroom house because DC2 is due soon, I just look at them like Confused
Because sharing a room in a warm comfortable house in a lovely suburban part of the UK is a real hardship. Hmm
