How the fuck should I know?

Anyone else have no idea what their kids are on about?

DD (3.5) has been playing with DH's childhood Star Wars toys; we have Bath Soda and Three Sleepio.

In action figure cross-over territory the feminist thread would enjoy, she also put Captain Picard's Star Fleet uniform on Barbie this morning. Unfortunately Captain Picard's beefy hands were too big to fit into Barbie's blouse, but her capri pants looked quite natty on him.

DH now has the Star Wars cookbook for his birthday, thanks :-)

lickety split, applejack and bowtie right back at you Darth!

God, I've been through, Tellytubbies, Thomas, thunderbirds, captain scarlet, stingray, dr who, star trek, (original, next generation, voyager, deep space nine and enterprise) and star wars! There is nothing I don't know about Deep space, saddle tank engines, SPVs, or the Rebel Alliance! obsessive child
It's what being a parent is all about!
It could be worse! It could be that pink rubbish!

I regularly have to be Han Solo forzen in carbonite while DD1 is Princess Leia unfreezing me <sigh>

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jun-11 16:35:01

Don't play with it. But it's preferable to loads of other plastic tat.

VeraGood Thu 23-Jun-11 16:34:17

dont play with your kids
have more kids instead

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jun-11 16:28:12

Yep know Boba Fett, Not the other one.

Star Wars lego is great. Ds' friend has the death star. It is so expensive.

posey Thu 23-Jun-11 16:25:59

DS says it's Kit (one t only) Fisto.
He just checked in his encyclopaedia grin

Stinkyfeet Wed 22-Jun-11 23:22:34

The Star Wars "Guess Who" game is another level of boredom:

Is he dark side?
Is he Republic?

Also I totally agree re Star Wars Lego encyclopedia!

nevergoogle Wed 22-Jun-11 23:04:47

anyone know if it's kitt fisto, or kitt fitso.

the first way sounds like a porn star.

osd Tue 21-Jun-11 22:33:26

I was bought Sith socks by Godson for Christmas and when i asked why he said they're cool and didn't have my size only grown up ones. He has just asked me if he can have them when he grows up. Love that.

His latest is that when hes twelve his dad will show him wookiepedia and he cant wait for his Birthday. grin

SarkySpanner Tue 21-Jun-11 22:32:57

Thing is though, much as I whinge about starwars etc I'd still take this over the girly shite any day.

posey Tue 21-Jun-11 22:30:12

Lissielou that is totally fab. Possibly filled with black jelly...
It's on the Christmas wish list

OracleInaCoracle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:26:23

oh, i may have to get that cookbook.

and this

TimeWasting Tue 21-Jun-11 22:25:22

DS isn't into Star Wars yet, but I'm pretty well-prepared after 12 years of DH. grin
Star Wars Cookbook sounds good. <adds to DH Christmas list>

posey Tue 21-Jun-11 22:23:29

Sarkyspanner I'm with you on that one.
Ds will ask me some random important Star Wars question and I usually answer "oh I don't know darling, you'll have to wait til daddy gets in".
Then off he goes to add to his encyclopaedic knowledge of the subject. Very sweet but sooooooo boring [ grin]

AurraSing Tue 21-Jun-11 22:22:20

I love the Star Wars coookbook. grin "Pricess Leia Danish Dos" and "Dark Side Salsa", anyone?

SarkySpanner Tue 21-Jun-11 22:18:23

I think the key is to show complete ignorance from day 1. That way they don't bother asking and wait for their dad to show up

You have to get used to the 'mummy is really stupid' look though.

osd Tue 21-Jun-11 22:18:20

There is a star wars cookbook too, if you like its on amazon we have the series, love my godsons and nephews, but my two ds are not going there. Enough! Sick of cooking star wars meals when they come and stay and that is not often enough to complain smile

nevergoogle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:15:08

oh crap, how old are the children when they ask you to rank the characters?

is there any way of avoiding this?

Saltire Tue 21-Jun-11 22:14:42

Ds2 is 11 and we go through this periodically too. oh and Dr Who character is another one. If Ds2 thinks we aren't listening and have the glazed look then he'll stop, and start to tell us again and again and again until he's sure we have taken it all in hmm

nevergoogle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:12:55

i think i am usually Asoka.

i've reminded them that even darth vadar is probably good to his mother.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism Tue 21-Jun-11 22:11:48

Ah yes, but have you been asked to rank the characters yet?

I have had to bullshit rank my top 10 clones. (with reasons)

My most awful bad characters.

My best characters

Rank the films in order of greatness.

Why is my DH never around when these conversations occur?!?

LemonEmmaP Tue 21-Jun-11 22:10:55

DS1 is going through a big Star Wars obsession just now, which in turn means that DS2 is equally obsessed so as to emulate his big brother. DS2 was telling me very seriously that the 'Lions have got the flag'. I couldn't recall too many big cats in Star Wars, so was a bit confused. It turns out he meant the Alliance. Bless.

nettie Tue 21-Jun-11 22:09:14

Talking about star wars is fine can um and argh at appropriate moments, its star wars guess who that gets me how the hell am I suppose to know if I'm on the dark side or if I'm a wooki!
