ebay - someone else has bidded & won using my account

I hope all you ebay users out there can advise me what to do. Somehow, someone has managed to get hold of my account and bid for a piece of software, whats more they won.
I have emailed ebay, who are not being a massive amount of help, as they say there is not enough evidence. I am hoping they can track which IP address the bid came from, which at least will give a clue if it was from my work or home computer. The bid was placed just before midnight on Wednesday - when we were all fast asleep, so I cannot even blame my 4 year old ds!!!

Luckily the wining bid was only £6, so if I have to pay it I can. Has this happened to anyone before & what do you think the chances are of the seller issuing a 'Mutual Agreement Not to Proceed'

Otherwise does anyone want a copy of paint shop?
Thanks

I assume you have now changed your password?

Not sure of why someone would do this - what's the benefit to them?

I assume MP that the bidder asks the seller to send to another address, or has changed the address on Debbies account.

Debbie, email the seller, and explain what has happened. The seller should also take it up with ebay.

Yes changed my password as soon as I realised, It has always been a mixture of letters & other characters so shouldn't have been easy to guess.
You are right that it a silly amount to bid for and how did they they think they would get it. Unless they planned to email the seller and ask them to send it somewhere else instead.
I cannot remember if I left the computer on or not but what are the odds of one of the cats logging on to ebay and placing a bid!

Oops, I am too slow at typing, you have all posted.
I have emailed the seller asking him to hang on while I try to find out what happened, have not received a reply yet (but only emailed 4 hours ago). Hoping ebay will help me figure out how this was done.

i take it ebay have confirmed its a genuine bid? i get loads of "auction won" emails that are spoofs, but look genuine..also loads saying i should enter my cc details to confirm that my new email address is correct (when i havent changed my addrss)

When I log onto ebay, I can see the item - awaiting feedback. So I think it is genuine.
I can't even use the software as it's the Windows version & I have a MAC at home.
Don't know yet where they are planning to send it to, but presumably they wont send it until I have paid.

Debbie, I don't know much about Macs but I know on my PC I can check my internet history and see what sites were accessed at what time - as it was only a few days ago, have you tried this?

Debbiethemum · 20/08/2005 15:32

According to my internet history on my home MAC I haven't used ebay at all for a week, so the cats are exonerated. I cannot check my work PC till Monday, but that is always turned off at night.

That was all he looked at on Wednesday!!!
If I'd known he had no actual work to do that day, he could have cleaned the bathroom or something.

if you have the guts, go onto one of the sites a nd print out a few pics...attach one to the hoover handle (so he could see it while hoovering), attach one to the kitchen window (so he can look at it while washing dishes) and leave a wee note to that effect under each picture...and look innocent (with the odd knowing grin chucked in)!!

Debbiethemum · 20/08/2005 16:08

Nice idea, but I would have to wait till ds & dd have gone to bed. But it's no use putting one on the hoover, he would never see it!!!

ok: picture the scene.."hunny, i have a suprise in the bedroomn for you!" he walks in to see the hoover in middle of floor with a big bow on it OR print out the history page and put it in a big envelope with lots of love on the front
