Vitamin K injections

does anyone know of any alternatives to giving the vit K jab to newborns? Whilst I don't want to put my baby at risk by refusing to let him/her have it I would much rather have something that would kick start the baby's own production naturally. Help anyone?

i could be wrong but i'm sure with DD it wasn't a jab, but a spoonful of liquid.

dd had a jab but I know now they do give it orally as there's apparently less risk. That NHS info states that there is "slight" risk (apparently being investigated in some nordic country for leukemia link) fills me with deep concern!

Talk to your midwife!
my 3 older ones had jab. 2 younger ones oral!
whats the risk if baby doesnt have it?
which is greater? lots of things to ask and think about!

weighing up for and against is fine and, don't get me wrong, I'm doing that but I just wondered if there was any alternative.

We were concerned about the link to childhood leikaemia, and with DD1 were given the choice of injection or oral. We gave oral and all went well.

With the younger 2 we were made to feel like aliens for even asking (different health authority) but they had oral as well.

If you are breastfeeding they need to have 3 doses (formula contains vit K so not required in that case) for it to be effective. The first dose at birth, the second about 7-10 days later and the third at about a month (a while since we did it so these might not be accurate!).

Don't know if that's any use?
