Just moved to a new area of London/ 10 months and still do not know many mums yet even though have asked many times if anyone available for play dates, everyone busy or away.

I do not have any family apart from a sister who lives abroad who I do not have much contact with. Have a very difficult ex husband who sends me very aggressive stressful emails, w app or texts about not very much. I just do my best to ignore him.

I would love to meet up with a single parents who live near me around Clapham common as I don't feel I will be judged by them. I understand from experience that married mums in the past that they just do not want to spend time with me and my son and that's ok. I tried Gingerbread but I did not find it very helpful. I would be happy to meet up for a tea, my timetable is flexible. I would like to create a good network of nice people around me and my son and for him to have also have a good network of friends.

Thanks

Hi OP, I'm not in London but it might help to post this on the local boards here for London or Clapham so people in your area will see it. Good luck.

Have you tried arranging something like a picnic in a park for single mums and kids and advertising it on the local mums Facebook group? Quite a few people do things like this on my local site. Perhaps set up a Facebook group that they could join?

Have you tried the Mush app? That's for meeting mums near where you live. I've made a lovely friend on it.

I am not on Face book but thanks for all the advice. I will have a look on Mush app.

Feeling of being alone is tough as a mum but without a network of family or people around me it is becoming unbearable and I just want my son to have some nice friends. Due to my ex husband I have had to move four times in last seven years and now we are I am happy to say we are settled permanently and it is a lovely area of London to be in.

How do I get on Local boards on mumsnet? Thanks.

Hi hotsunnyweathered,

We're really pleased to see the advice and support you've already been given here.

Do take a look at our Local Talk Board for your area - it might be a way to get to know some local Mums.

Goodluck with it all.

Don't rule out the married ones, OP - I'm a single mother, and I spend at least as much time with other mums who have a DH or DP. I have never had any one of them object to the fact that I'm single, and I also find (contrary to what you might read on Mumsnet) that they are keen to do stuff on weekends, and not obsessed with "family time".

It is obviously nice to have friends in the same situation as you, but you are fishing in a much smaller pool if you discount anyone who's not single.

Also nothing to stop you going to the seaside just the two of you. Brighton is easy from London.

Actually, thinking about it, it's MAINLY the married ones who want to do stuff on weekends, because the single/separated ones often don't have their kids on a weekend, and don't want to hang out with mine.
