Bubble, if you had a nursery nearer me, I'd send DS there like a shot.

Bubble, it was a thing with Twiglett - I may change back I think. I just said sneaky was my middle name on a thread sometime last year - and she sees my name with a sneaky in the middle of it and thinks it's funny that my nickname has a nickname (I do too ). But perhaps it's giving the wrong impression - I'm not sneaky in a bad way, I promise

Fine, bub. Thanks for asking. DW is sticking out nicely (due beg. August), and I've JUST ORDERED MY BUGGY, which is obviously a ginormous step for a serial procrastinator.

If you ever want any gobby-mouthed marketing advice, or to bounce ideas around on promoting the nursery, just shout. No cost - it's not my field, after all, and I can't promise anything useful, but sometimes it can be beneficial to get other people's views etc. or to get friendly pushes in the right direction, or to have a marketing plan reviewed etc.... I appreciate you're principally operating on word of mouth / personal recommendation, but still, there are always ways of creating press interest, keeping in-touch with prospective clients through events / newsletters etc. etc. We're in North London and as my folks are in Ealing, Richmond is not far.

(Hope you're not offended by the suggestion).

hub2dee, you're a marvel, truly. I may have said it before I've certainly thought it!

(Which buggy did you go for?)

sneeeeeeky.... - listen, my advice might be a pile of pants... well-meaning, of course, but a pile of pants nonetheless.

Mountain Buggy Terrain in navy with carrycot and covers (from US family)... it's cheaper in the States by several hundred quid.

You up there in muesli crunching territory are you hub? Knitting your own yoghurt?
Before I get burned. I am allowed to make these flippant comments as I am a North Londoner born and bred now living in the leafy Southwestern suburbs.
Do tell about the buggy. Is it a boy-racer special?
H(S)M - He is isn't he? Lets give the hubster a great big cyberhug

We'll need to look out for a crumpled over-hugged hub with a buggy with go-faster stripes.

LOL you lot.

If I could squeeze my ass into the buggy, I'd sponsor you all to do the Playtex Moonwalk

I'm sorry to hear you opted for plane noise, bub instead of Hampstead Heath.

Was in Richmond (or was it the posh bit of Sheen ? - next to the Park) last week and was reminded how noisy the place is.

It's sooooo quiet around here.

The buggy is simple, not very attractive but well made. I didn't opt for the chunky tyres as I'm so sophisticated.

I was thinking of customising the canopy for beanette. Maybe put one of those fancy purple neon thingies underneath the shopping tray, and a pump-up suspension system maybe ?

LOL.

Thank you for my hugs.

Re: meet-up - that might be fun. I'd love to see the nursery, or visit Kew soon.

Aw, bubble, your Hampton nursery is very close to me. But, unfortunately if I waited until 8:00 to drop off the little one, I wouldn't get to work until way too late. Also, we have another one due in May, so the age ranges are too old to suit us. But, it looks great. Best of luck!!

Thanks uwila We had an open day today at the Hampton Nursery which went really well. There are a lot of nurseries in Hampton so we decidied to advertise over in Hanworth as there isn't much full daycare provision there. Most of the people who came today were Hanworth folks and they all seemed pretty impressed. We knew this nursery would be slower to fill but we're getting there and two people who came today had been recommended by parents of children already attending which is the best kind of advertising there is.

Wotcha hub. We'll be having an open day soon at the Ham, Richmond nursery. I'll let you know when it is so that you, the missus and the impending beanette can come along for a glass of something nice and some nosh. This offer, of course, extends to any mnetters who'd like to come. It would be so nice to meet some of you lovely people who've helped me get through these last, dark, difficult weeks.

hub2dee - Mountain Buggy is attractive - all that aluminium.

Nursery sounds excellent Bubble. From a marketing point of view I wonder if you have to make so much of what is wrong with some other nurseries. Can you name names if you get challenged to prove your claims.

I'm in NZ so your rates mean little to me - but are you much more expensive because you include nappies and have organic food.

Like hub2dee it's not my area (which was insurance - where you deffo don't criticise the opposition because they have big scary lawyers) so I am prepared to be told I am completely wrong.

Oooh yes! Can and would definately name names. DS2 attended one such nursery for a few months before we moved him. This was before we decided to set up our own. Permanently understaffed, moved staff between branches for OFSTED inspections to give the impression of full staffing levels. Truly awful food, garage sandwiches, packet soup mixed with boiling water and served from the plastic salad drawer from the nursery 'fridge. Hula Hoops and a jam donut with a white bread processed cheese sandwich for tea more than once. An apparent fear of fresh fruit or veg purchasing. The list goes on. I would love one of the chains to confront us but as we have not specified which chain it is there's not much they can do and by becoming defensive they would be identifying themselves as the type of chain we are using as our "How not to run a nursery" model.

Our prices are in line with our competitors and we are a lot cheaper for the 18 month olds. Most nurseries charge a lot more for the under two's to reflect the extra staffing/ratios needed for this age group. Factor in the cost of buying organic ingredients, free nappies and only one unqualified/trainee staff member and I think we're good value for money.

Can I just say Bubble how brilliant that website is. I cannot find websites for any of the nuseries in our area.

Also would it be a bad thing if I sent dd 200ish miles to the Nursery.
It looks fab.

Hey bub, reserve me, mrs and beanette. a pew at the open day and I'll come along and sample organic delights and go through initiation by three year olds and learn (by observation) to change a nappy !!!

V. happy for you today's open day went well. Track those addresses / phone numbers in case you want to drop a nursery newsletter / advise one-off events etc. etc. !

hub2dee. That is a really good idea about posting a nursery newsletter to people who've attended the open day or had brochures sent but haven't booked a place. Hadn't thought of that, thanks. Keep the ideas coming. Looking forward to meeting you and the family.
