Just out of interest, do you send your children to nursery with the cold?

Kids get colds all the time but I just wondered what the etiquette was re nursery? I am new to this-can you tell!!

I never send my DD with a cold.

I'm with Marla - if I kept dd at home with a cold she would hardly be there - she has had a perma runny nose for the last few months.

Vomit/eye goo/nasty nappies/ high temps etc would mean she would stay at home. Though my GP told me that it is NOT necessary to keepy them off with eye goo !

They're both past nursery age, but when they were there, I'd do as Marlasinger did - as long as they were happy in themselves, and no temperature, they'd go in.

It depends. If they're otherwise well...no temp etc. then yes I would.

colds are not classed as illness in our house. business as usual unless it's serious

Yes, nurseries are used to kids having colds all the time.

The only time I've kept him home was with sickness/diarrhea or with chicken pox.

Yes. Otherwise she would never be there. Provided she is fine in herself, she goes in.

Of course - at times they are all runny nosed etc. Our nursery gave us a list of the things that they should be off with

Perhaps I am being a bit over zealous keeping him off with a cold then but he does have a cough and has not yet mastered the art of covering your mouth when coughing!

Ah, but the passing round of non-threatening germs is what childhood is all about. They won't develop a good auto-immune system unless they blend sneezes and snot in their formative years.

ds only goes part-time for the freebie provision, but I only keep him off if he's genuinely out of sorts, with a temperature, etc.

Sniffly cold, or runny nose yes. If he's got a temperature or is really miserable, no.

DD is off as frequently as she attends. Sometimes we are on our way there and she says: "I wish we could go to the park. I have got a little bit of snotty nose." And so we go to the park.

I send mine with a snot fest - if he was unwell and clingy with it with a temp then i wouldnt.
