DD - Nursery problem

Hi all,

Ok, I have a different problem to those who have complained of child not settling at nursery - My dd goes 4 days per week from 8:39 - 1pm...she loves it so much that she throws a tantrum when I come to take her home.

It's so embarrassing as it's like she prefers to be there than at home. I know that when I collect her, she is so tired (and usually hungry because she is a terrible eater) but she gets so upset and disappointed to leave and I literally have to take her home crying.

I do try several things but so far nothing has been successful:

• sitting with her for a while and letting her participate in activities for longer
• taking her one of her fave toys when collecting
• Telling her of evening plans involving seeing friends / family
• Bringing a treat

Any advice or shared experience gladly appreciated.

Does she generally have trouble coping with transitions? Perhaps you could see if the staff could prepare her in a more structured way -- e.g. "Mummy will be here to take you home in twenty minutes... Mummy will be here to take you home in ten minutes... Mummy will be here to take you home in five minutes, lets get your coat on...

But TBH with the tiredness you're likely to have tears whatever you do.

Thanks for your response, that's a good idea, I'll mention that but I think they do kind of do that but not so structured...worth a try though,

She is generally quite good with change and adapts really quickly to new situations. It's just that she seems to like nursery a little too much lol. When I take her, she runs in excitedly and says to me "later, bye".

This of course is a much nicer sight that when she went through a very short spat of crying when I left.

I've always had trouble getting DS to leave as well, although we've never really had tears over it (he just uses all the procrastination resources at his disposal).
