Wearing shoes in nursery?

We went for a tour of a nursery today and I found it odd that they didn’t ask my partner and I to take our shoes off while walking around the baby room. I even mentioned it to the woman showing us around but she told us to keep our shoes on. Does anyone know if this is normal to wear outdoor shoes inside a nursery? Maybe I’m a bit ott (first time mom so I’m worried about everything) but I find it gross that shoes would be worn with babies crawling around!

I can't say I would think about this

No shoes allowed in the Baby room in nursery I work at during operational hours

But for tours at the moment they are only happening at weekends - you can wear your shoes for these - we have to do a big clean after the tours anyway so the floors will be cleaned after the visitors go

Were there any babies there at the time?
We wouldn’t ask people to take off their shoes for a viewing because all viewings are done after we close and before the cleaner starts

There was a baby sitting on the floor right where we were walking through! Which is why I was immediately like “oh sorry we’ll take our shoes off!” And I was a bit shocked when she told us not to Confused like “.....but...the baby on the floor though?”

Nurseries and childminders aren’t allowed to show parents round whilst children are present because of the pandemic. I’d be more concerned that adults would be in with your baby, against government guidelines.

It is unusual to leave outdoor shoes on in a baby room. Also I don't know many nurseries that are doing show arounds during opening hours

I've worked in quite a few baby rooms and I've only ever known one place to ask staff and parents to take shoes off and that didn't last very long, maybe only a few weeks and then people just stopped doing it and it was a forgotten rule

At my sons nursery (he started when he was 12mnths) i noticed staff in the baby room wearing shoes but when i first visited they were wearing slippers. I raised this and the manager agreed that it was gross, spoke to the staff and room manager and it stopped the next day. I agree its not right to wear outdoor footwear with very young children crawling about - id raise it with them to see if thats the norm or whether the room staff need a nudge

Our nursery have shoe covers outside the room, and all staff wear slippers OR shoes that are just worn within the room.
