DS 3yo Head Injury at Nursery

Hi all,

I hope you can help me on what I need to do about this situation.

Picked up DS from nursery today and was told that he had a minor head injury which involved a wooden block falling on his head (from storage unit) while he was sat down on the floor.
I asked to see the block and it was a very thick block about 30cm long and 20cm thick.
I was visibly alarmed but his teacher said it didn’t fall from a great height and he was ok after a little cry and ice on the back of his head.
DS seemed well enough too and when I got to the car and asked him if it was still hurting, he replied no and said wooden block hurt my head.

Hours later, he now keeps saying that a boy called “Arthur” threw it across his head and the teacher shouted at Arthur and he said sorry to the teacher while DS was crying.

I really am not sure if DS might be saying something that didn’t happen. I have questioned him several times and he is saying that this Arthur threw it at him (with quite some conviction).

I asked him if he shouted or threw anything at Arthur and he said he didn’t throw but he did shout at Arthur.

I’m not sure what to believe and not sure how to handle it with the nursery either.

My sister is telling me to have a frank talk to them about it to find out exactly what happened - but what if they just lie to my face (if indeed the wooden block was thrown at DS)?

What would I do next then?

Any suggestions please?

Thank you x

Just forget it and move on. It’s a nursery - things fall, kids throw things, kids make up stories and it’s pointless going over it all if he’s all ok.

I am bang in the middle of serious PFB stage and your post has sent me over the edge 🤣
I'd kick up a fuss but given the above maybe get some sensible suggestions 🙈

Well firstly the nursery won't tell you who did it, if it was another child.

Secondly, is it important? It might have been unclear if staff didn't see it. Or it's quite possible that Arthur did something at another time and your child is confusing the two.

In any case it sounds like a one off and stuff like this just happens at nurseries.

Why would they lie? confused

Hey, I had an incident with my son and another wee girl which resulted in him shouting at her in his sleep (he has nightmares) and just asked them if there was any other incidents or if they were nipping away at each other. Just tell the nursery what your son is say and see what they say x

How old is he. I would just mention to the staff that he said Arthur threw it and you just want it.clarified. dont push.him.about it anymore. If arthur did theow it and your ds shouted at him then the leader can address that with them.

I think the issue here is not what happened exactly but a concern that the nursery have lied to you. You should be able to trust that they tell you exactly what happened ie a child threw it or it fell of a shelf. If what your son is saying is undermining your trust in the nursery I'd just raise your son's account with them. They should be able to reassure you about how it happened.
