Wrong Dummy

My DS has come home from nursery with another child's dummy in his mouth. No idea if it was sterile before they gave it to him. He seems to catch every bug going as it is, would you say anything to the nursery or just let it go?

Let it go. Kids put everything in their mouths anyway

How old is your DS? If he of an age where he can crawl etc I'm sure it's not the worst thing he has/will put in his mouth.

Well I'd tell them about it because I'd want mine back if possible, but I wouldn't be angry about it. How old is he?

This happened all the time at our nursery. First time I was horrified. Having spent many evenings picking up my child they absolutely cannot manage to ensure every child has their own sterile dummy every time. I’d let it go and long term consider getting rid of the dummy if it really bothers you!

Oh gosh, my daughter is the same age and I can't remember the last time I sterilised her dummy 😬

That’s not ok

What if it wasn’t sterilised and for example the other child had had a bottle and it was given to a child with cmpa

They need to do better and not make mistakes like that id complain

I had to ask dd nursery years ago to put away all the recorders and they’d given all the kids cake ......then sent them off to play and they were all sharing but ds has a severe egg allergy it was lucky I was there (they wouldn’t let me go till they’d done epi pen training)

@sickandtiredofsick that’s completely different. Dummies get mixed up all the time, it happens. Especially when the majority of the babies have mam dummies Confused

My advice is get rid of the dummy. Children do not need that physical sucking soothing motion. Especially during the day. This is the time he will be starting to use spoken language and a dummy will impact on his speech. Using dummys gives a higher chance of glue ear, miss formed speech and badly developed teeth. I have done some work with speech and language therapists which is where my advice is coming from.

Sorry I missed a bit in my post it should read they don't need that physical sucking soothing motion at that age.

I work in nursery and it is not difficult to avoid dummies getting mixed up at all and it shouldn’t happen. It is not hygienic and spreads germs, if they think this is ok what other hygiene practices aren’t being done? I think you need to say something to the staff about it as they need to be more careful
