Anyone have their child/children in full time COUNCIL nursery?

Hello all

I have my kids in full time private nursery but have been offered afternoons at a council nursery which would be a inconvience to me just part time but still possible.

I am wondering whether I should go for it as getting a council nursery full time is almost impossible?

Does anyone have their child/children in full time nursery which is a council one? or even 3 days full time? as even 3 days full time would be more convient to me that just afternoons. Or if I should just keep them where they are in full time private nursery?

I am trying to figure out if full time council nursery is very very hard to get and normally people do not get that.

Thanks in advance all.

DS used to go to a sure start centre daycare - is that what you mean?

It was great and the cheapest in the area by far.

Confused as to exactly why you’d want to switch to something which "would be a inconvenience to me" ?

Have you considered the possible unsettling effect on your children?

Are you sure your current nursery will play ball? I would have thought they’re not obliged to accommodate the change. If you ask them for a new arrangement, they are entirely within their rights to say it’s full time or nothing (And are very likely to do so if they have any sort of waiting list.)

Thanks but my question is, is it common for children to be in a council nursery full time?

Yes it is common to go full time. Mine have. Though your question is quite vague, I assume you mean a sure start centre nursery.

My child was in a pre-school 9 to 3 5 days a week. However she started with few hours and gradually built it up as more hours became available.

Why would you go private? What is the cost? I would wait and get a spot in a public system.

Where I am private nurseries are open 07:30 to 18:00 inclusive and are open 50 weeks of the year (two weeks off for Xmas /NY).

Council run nurseries operate for 40 weeks of the school term only and operate two separate sessions: 09:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00.

Be sure to look into what you are actually being offered as you may find it might not actually be suitable, and you will need to find alternative childcare for the school holidays.
