One - my mindees had 8 today

Report
tiredemma · 05/06/2007 20:10

does these look like a good menus?

1-brekkie- toast cereal

dinner- chicken curry
semolina pudding

tea - crumpet with jam
chocolate roll

2- toast/ceral

macaroni cheese
yoghurt

cheese sandwich
chocolate roll

3- toast/cereal

cheese potato pie
rice pudding

beans on toast
chocolate roll ( can you see a pattern forming here?)

Today I offered my own apple to be blended to be given to one of the babies whose mother had complained about her son having 'blended' chocolate roll.

This is a nursery where I am on placement, it starting to piss me off.

Those are three menus served in consecutive days- so chocolate roll is given every day! - last week they had jam sandwiches for tea and chocolate roll. Im thinking that is too much sugar

That's very unbalanced. My ds nursery does have treats like home made cakes and stuff but they have fruit every day either as snacks or within their meals or both. It should be part of their regs etc - I would have a chat with the manager re your concerns.

at least 5 per day!!! At DS's nursery they offer fruit with every meal and as a snack. They only offer water and no juice
Breakfast would be cereal with toast and fresh fruit
snack is fruit
lunch is home cooked and followed by fruit
snack is fruit and or veg
then tea which is a light snack followed by fruit

those menus sound hideous and not nutritionally balanced

If anyone had fed my baby chocolate roll when he was still young enough for it to need to be blended, I'd have gone fkn apeshit at them.

That's appalling! that is a really bad diet!

chocolate roll every day - sugar rush or what?
Does the nursery publicise these menus? I would not be happy with DS eating that amount of refined sugar - as a treat is fine BTW

I really dont feel I can till next week- I have my final one-to one then and I intend to discuss it then, I will certainly also be feeding all this back to my uni aswell. Im disgusted at some of the things I have seen and have felt nothing but guilt for ever sending my own sons to nursery.

what do the parents think of this menu? presumably you are filling in the daily sheet things to show the parents what they've had..so what do the parents say?

fwiw, dd's nursery is fab, really good menus. on monday she had tuna wraps for tea (she only does afternoons) and apricots to follow. lots of evidence on the floor when she was picked up!

Report
WK007 · 05/06/2007 20:20

That is terrible! My dd's nursery does;

brekkie - cereal of childs choice or toast
am snack - fruit and biscuits (fruit first so they eat it!)
lunch - one of 15 meals in rotation, all cooked at the nursery by a great cook, all basic nice meals with lots of veg sneaked in where possible (ie pizza with veg in the sauce, shepherds pie etc) and a yoghurt or cooked dessert
pm snack - fruit and biscuits
tea - sandwich, salad veg and yoghurt or chocolate mousse

Have always raved to them about the hugh standard of their meals but they don't understand why everyone else doesn't do it, they say its so easy to arrange and manage!!!
