Nurseries

Would you let this slide, nappy changes?

My DD, 2.8 attends a private Nursery 3 days a week. She is still in nappies.

I know they are changing her in the day as we use different nappies at home to the ones we send into Nursery, and they mark off on her sheet they've changed her and whether it's wet or soiled.

According to their website they change at morning snack time (10am), Some time between lunch and snack time (lunch at 11.30 and she's usually down for her nap by 12.30), afternoon snack time (1.30-2pm), and then before going home (I pick up at 4.30/4.45ish). They also change children as required and they are checked regularly throughout the day.

When I get there at 4.30 the staff are mentioning that they haven't done the last nappy change of the day. Remembering the most she's gone in that nappy is 2.5 - 3 hours would you be bothered? They will check her and change her if it's wet (she usually soils in the morning) but if not ask me if I want it doing. I only change as required at home, and that's usually only 4-5 times a day but that includes the first nappy of the day and a last change before bed/after bath, so she's being changed about what she would be at home.

Would this bother you? I am certain they are changing her throughout the day as it's ticked off on her sheet with the times and I've picked up at different times of the day and one or two staff have been in the changing room changing childrens nappies. So it's just the last one of the day.

I'm asking because my DH feels uneasy about it, and thinks we should mention it to the manager that maybe they should check/change DD earlier (I think the system is in order of importance, so soiled nappies done first then in alphabetical order of surname, our surname begins with T so she could be one of the last to be changed and I'm getting there to early for her to have been done)

I really don't see the problem 2.5-3 hours in a nappy is normal, unless it's really bed.

Definitely let it go.

So she’s being changed every 3 hours and doesn’t have nappy rash or any other problems?

I’m not sure what basis you’d be complaining about.

Sounds about normal and my DD is 14months. If she's not absolutely soaking or soiled when you come to collect her or having skin problems, I don't think it's a huge issue.

Thistle Neither do I but DH seems to think we should. She does get nappy rash but that's not due to the nappies itself but due to some medication she's on which makes her urine a bit more acidic and the Nursery are always brilliant about applying creams etc if she needs it

What exactly are you unhappy about? They don't change her because you get there slightly before the time they would do it anyway?

SpringWaterName · 16/02/2018 22:28

Phoenix my husband is unhappy that they're not changing her before I/he gets there at the end of the day. I have no complaints personally.

Well if she has a bappyrash problem he may have more basis for being cautious.

I’d make him to the complaining though...

This is completely fine (and I had the exact same situation).

I'm guessing they have tea about 4pm?

I think it's really not a big deal. has your husband said why he's not happy about it? If you're not bothered but he's quite persistent then I'd tell him to complain about it himself.

I think it's normal. I pick lo up anytime from 4-6 sometimes he's been changed nd sometimes their about to so just ask. I never take them up on it and just change him when we get home

Is your DH bothered because he doesn’t want to have to change her nappy for a while after she gets home? If that’s not the reason I’m struggling to see what the problem is.

Report
SpringWaterName · 16/02/2018 22:35

kintan More than likely, he hates changing nappies, but she's not ready for toilet training yet

I agree. You're picking up before nappy changing time, so you either pick up later, or change at home.

Nothing to complain about.

Definitely think your overreacting here. Your picking up an awkward time which is usually the tea/tidying up/ nappy changing point of the day. Surely it’s not the nurseries thought you pick up before the last one is done for the day. Unless you live two hours away don’t really see what the issue is.

this would not bother me at all! unless you live hours away, surely you can just change her at home if she needs doing? they do loads of changes, far more than i did when my DD was in nappies at 2.8 Blush

Rinceoir · 17/02/2018 09:52

When my daughter was in nappies if we collected her just before or at nappy change time we would just change it ourselves before going home (20-25min walk but longer if popping to shops). Staff never minded. If she was being left in soiled nappies I’d be annoyed but otherwise don’t really see the problem.

If he wants her changed could he not say I know I've come in the middle of change time could I change x before I go so she's not too wet when I get in? not a complaint then just a request.
But I don't get his problem if she's not sore and you wouldn't do it that much at home apart from not wanting to do it is he also thinking well I pay for her to be changed x times so I'm getting my monies worth.
