Swapping days

Does anyones nursery allow you to swap days after holidays or illness. Ours just to assuming they had ťhe space which was amazingly convenient when you needed it, suddenly are saying no, which I think is unhelpful if the numbers allow. Just wondered what others do?

We've used 2 nurseries and never been allowed to swap days. At first nursery you could pay for an extra day if they had room (which was rare actually) and 2nd nursery did not allow any flexibility at all. You were on a set 3 day contract or a 5 day contract (nothing else offered, no half days, nothing if you wanted 4 days).

Is pretty unusual. They have to balance the books. You have paid for your set days and they were available. They would be unlikely to be able to 'resell' your dc's place if they didn't come in so that money is gone.
Some Nurseries allow you to buy an extra day, if they have the space and know in advance. They have to keep in ratio of course, and have the staff available (not in meetings with outside professionals or other parents etc.).

No, ours wouldn't have allowed this, unless you paid for the extra day (so not really a swap). I think the reason is that they may not have enough staff available to meet the ratios and it probably causes too much chaos with changing staff schedules.

Ours don’t allow this. If our daughter is ill we just lose the day.

I manage a nursery and we don't do swap days
You can book an extra day, assuming we have space
Changes to booked days require 4 weeks notice
Can you imagine the chaos if every parent swapped and changed their sessions every day?
I need to know how many children are in each day, projecting forward as I need to know how many staff I need, as well as how much food to buy

Our nursery allows three swop days per year but they must be booked in advance and are subject to there being space in the room. I have used all three this year to make sure I could do work things and have booked each approx six weeks in advance. We have to submit the days in writing and wait for confirmation back in writing. There are no swops for illness or holidays. The swops have to be within the same week (so i can’t swop to four days one week and two the next, still has to be three days per week).

I have also paid for some extra days but wasn’t able to get all the days I wanted as the nursery didn’t have space available.
