Nursery full of grant only kids

Can someone please give me their personal experience on using a council owned nursery/part of school for full time care of a baby.

Our DD has been in the baby room of such a nursery for 6 months now, we just haven't warmed to it. Our DS went to a private nursery and we felt much better about that but he now attends the school this nursery is attached to hence the reason we chose it. The staff in the baby room don't seem as physically affectionate (cuddles) as we're used to and I'm wondering if this is because it's council owned? We pay £50 a day btw so it's not council price!

Since she started there I've noticed that the 2 yrs+ rooms seem to be nearly all kids just doing funded hours with parents literally queuing down the street to drop off at funded start time which is later than the full paying start time. This is worrying me as I want DD to make friends with kids who are there for the whole day like her, not seeing her friends start later and then finishing at 2 leaving her all alone.

They also refuse to give her weak squash and insist on water. She takes squash with her at the start of the day but then they will only replenish with water which she won't drink, not great in this weather. Again not a problem in my sons private nursery.

Sorry it's a ramble but if anyone has any experience I'd love to hear a different view.

If you're not happy with the nursery then I would change. Staff not showing affection for the children would be a big issue for me.

They are absolutely right to only give water though.

Just go back to a private nursery then...

Wow. Snobby much

By the way, in my DCs private nursery (which was v.posh - they had to wear blazers and hats!!) they would only serve water. Squash is for commoners

Oh gosh £50 per day is definitely council price. Why would you want your DD to mix with those oiks.

I find it totally unbelievable that you don't have a nanny, no one puts a baby in a nursery.

YANBU maybe try a childminder though as they may be able to do drop offs etc around the school? They have less kids too so can be a bit more 'tailored' to individual needs.
The OP never said anything negative about the kids being dropped off - just that she didn't want daughter being there on her own.

how long did it take you to come up with 'my baby needs to be with her friends for all of her time in nursery' to disguise your prejudice against people entitled to funded places?

Wow. Just noticed that little gem. Yeah, go private if you want staff who actually like children Hmm

I am aware my concern over the funded only kids sounds snobby, it's not intended that way. DD attends full time so if she has no full time friends this may upset her no?

Why are you shoving her in a nursery if you're there to watch the comings and goings of other parents? Couldn't you mind her yourself?

Your actual post is fairly reasonable but your title is goady as hell althohellnot sure what " all kids just doing funded hours with parents literally queuing down the street to drop off at funded start time " is implying - they're all so desperate to drop off the little urchins they're queuing for hours to do it? Why do they need to queue to get into nursery?

So your DS has starter school so you've moved DD to the nursery there for ease? Is it too hard to drop her back off at her old one if you're unhappy? I assume the affection is probably school guidelines and they won't top up one kid with cordial and the others with water as its a pina.

How old is DD?

Regardless of whether its council owned or not, this nursery has your child in its care for a large portion of time. If after giving it a good run of 6 months and your not warming to it then you should look else where. Go with your gut feeling! Knowing there are nurserys such as your DS's that do provide the ammenities your looking for isnt going to help you warm to a place that hasnt. Im currently moving my son out of a low deprived area school as we have found because of this title, certain behaviours are to be more expected & allowed due to lack of support either at home or insuffienct funds/resources in the school. If your worried after 6 months, it must be worth looking at other places.

Find it v hard to believe there will be no other full timers. Honestly though she would be fine even if there wasn't. My DD has her morning and afternoon friends who come in for funded sessions, it's great for encouraging them not to stick with just one friend.

I think I'm fairly middle class Hmm but my 3 and 4 year olds only go to their funded hours as I'm a SAHM. My DS best friend is a little boy who goes all day. Doesn't seem to cause any issues.

Re: juice, I would remove my child from a nursery who was doling this out unless for very unusual medical circumstances to specific children. I expect my DC only to be offered water or milk (per as at home). I do not want them to be somewhere where juice is a choice. Doesn't matter is it is sugar free or not (sugar free is acidic). TH is a dentist and totally relaxed about most things to do with parenting but would not find this acceptable

Why does a baby need weak squash? I agree with nursery water only for babies. The tooth decay amongst toddlers in this country is shocking.
Quit the squash!

If you're paying £50 a day, why not get a Filipino nanny for £250 a week and then she'll do your housework at the same time.
