A question: When did you have yours? There are huge waiting lists for nurseries where I am and my options with care days are limited. I've been on maternity leave for almost six months now with another five to go and my company has a poor track record with allowing part time/flexible working within my team so I'd like to get something sorted soon. But is now too soon? TIA.

I first met with my boss to broach the subject of part time working in around April, wasn't due back until August. Timed it deliberately as I knew that staffing budgets were all approved in May each year!

Ok so perhaps next month then! I like the way you think wink

It's never too soon. I had to put my notice in while on maternity leave, but ended up getting another half a month of garden leave then.

Thanks both. I'm dreading it as I know they're going to make things difficult for me in terms of working flexibly, so I'm hoping to get it over with as soon as possible so I can look at my options (but I don't want to do it too too soon iyswim - no idea what the "done thing" is).

Depends on industry - I had discussed before going on mat leave and then wrote when baby was 4 months old. My return to work date was quite clear cut - the flexible bit was up for discussion but was approved with no issues.

Them knowing earlier worked in my favour I think.
