Nurseries

Nellys (Rosendale Road) or Gumboots (SE22)

All, I'm looking for reviews of Nelly's from those have had experience please.

Whilst I've managed to get our child's name on the list and went to visit the nursery (and was happy with what I saw) we are looking to move from where we currently are, which is going to make it a pain to get to each day. I'm aware Bright horizons have taken over and wanted to check if anyone whose child attends has seen any difference?

One of the other options closer to where we will be moving to is Gumboots - has anyone got any feedback on this nursery?

Thanks in advance

No experience of Nelly's, other than being on the waiting list for over a year and eventually giving up. My DD is at Cherry Tree, which is about 5 minutes further down Rosendale Road towards West Norwood. It is fabulous and I can't fault it in any way. Caring, lovely staff and brilliant space. It also looks to be hundreds of pounds cheaper per month. It is twinned with Rosendale Childrens' Centre, which also looks great but has much less outside space.

Hi Bear2014
That's useful to know re waiting lists. I do check in with them once every 2 months and can see us getting closer, but for reasons which I suppose are understandable, they can't give an exact date. Helpful having another recommendation though.

I saw that you're actually further towards East Dulwich.. I really wouldn't hold out for Nelly's, i've heard of people getting their names down the day after the 12 week scan and still not getting their 1 year old in. Have you checked out Bright Horizons by Dulwich Hamlet?

No I haven't. I heard back from Nellys and they said they should have a place in Sept. We were 39th on the waiting list (and told it would be a year) when we out my little ones name down and given some of the children move out in Sept we are now 10th.

Anyone else have any experience of Nellys?

( I did go to visit Gumboots and whilst it was a very spacious nursery it wasn't too my liking)

I remember having a look at Nelly's for my DC and really liked it. Went on the waiting list in 2010 and were never offered a place...

That doesn't sound promising and along with Bear2014 comment, makes it even less promising.

Was it that they give you a timeframe for when they thought they would have a place available for you which never came to fruition or was it that you needed to find something sooner and had to look elsewhere?

It was a bit of both. Think I went on the waiting list around November time. Needed a place for the following September. They said that there might be a place coming up in September, which never came. Then they said maybe Christmas. By that point we had found a wonderful childminder. I never chased them since but surely one would have thought even without chasing you eventually get offered a place, especially since we paid to get into the waiting list.

Actually it may have been Croxted Rd we signed up for, think we did say we would consider the other two branches too.

Our 2 year old is at Nellys (Turney Rd) and we're really happy - lovely staff and environment, great caring and fun atmosphere. My older two also went to Nellys (Rosendale Rd) and it was also fantastic, though that was some time ago - they are now 10 and 7. It took ages to get a place for my eldest and I moved him there from another nursery, but I definitely felt it was worth the wait.

I must admit I'm slightly more nervous having read some of the responses about not getting a place. I do find I have to chase them and would have appreciated a courtesy call, it would have given me some more comfort as well. And yes, Sometimespostingalwaysslurking I agree having paid to go on a waiting list you would expect them to let you know.

However; when I went to visit the kids looked happy and engaged and every other nursery I've been to see doesn't look as good.

Cathy18: mind if I ask if you have a preference on either Turney Road or Rosendale?
