how will you react

hello lovely mums
how will you react if your 3 1/2 year has used scissors in the nursery and also had a small cut in the dress.

These things happen, I think - DS made a v small hole in his own trousers at about that age whilst cutting at nursery. It would have been just as likely to happen while he was at home.

Nursery let him know it wasn't ok, I let him know it wasn't ok, it's never happened again.

I think it's inevitable. At 3.5 I guess you as a parent could ask child to be more careful but I don't see it as the Nursery's fault

I'd just be relieved he'd done something other than play lego.

Small children ruin clothes I'm afraid. It's a pain, but in a few years they'll discover games consoles and will never do anything else again!

How would I react?!

scissors are pretty crucial for arts and crafts so I wouldn't bat and eyelid. As for the dress, I only ever send my DDs in comfortable play clothes that I'm not precious about - DD2 regularly comes home filthy from painting, mud kitchen etc.

This is why you send children to nursery in old clothes isn't it?

I'd tell her to be careful around scissors, warn nursery that someone may be experimenting with scissors and make sure she has old clothes for nursery.

Well, my nursery would probably point it out to me very apologetically, and I'd laugh and say it was all part and parcel of learning. But if I noticed when I got home I might say next time I went in, "I noticed there was a little cut on DD's dress? It's not a problem but she's obviously done it sneakily"and they'd be mortified and think about how it had happened. However I know and trust my nursery and the staff.

I'd be surprised that my DD hadn't remembered how to use scissors properly as I've taught her to be careful with them.

Nursery manager here, we would want to know, we would be mortified but it happens. We would then be more aware that someone was using their new found snipping skills in a new way!

Ds2 cut all the way up one of his sleeves at nursery. They were mortified, I laughed. They spend time at nursery learning to use scissors and building up to having free access to them for their crafting so a few mishaps is pretty inevitable.
