Hi!

I have twin boys who were born on the 21st November 2013. I was wondering when will they be eligible to start nursery?
Would it be September 2017 when they will be 3 and turning 4 in two months or would we have to wait an extra year and start in September 2018 when they are 4 and would turn 5 in 2 months?

Many thanks

The free funding starts the term after they turn 3. So if they are 3 this November, funding will start January 2017.

It is the term after their 3rd birthday.

They can start whenever you want, you don't have to wait until it's "free"

Do you mean a pre school nursery?

They can go to a private nursery whenever you like.

Preschool is usually from the school year they will turn 4 within, or if there are places, from when they turn three.

So officially a pre school cam take your sons September 2017. However my preschool takes them from the day they turn three so November 2016. If there are places.

We are sending our DC (same age) from September but pay. It is free from January

Mostly they can attend nursery the term after they turn three, but we used a school nursery and they took my son days after he turned three (mid January) so best to look into that too.

If at a school nursery you will probably have to start them in the September and pay for a term in order to secure them a place.

The 15 hrs a week of Early Years Funding (in England at least, don't know about the rest of the U.K.) kicks in the term after the child's 3rd birthday, so Jan 2017 for you. This can be used as preschool sessions (often 3 hrs every week day) or used at a private nursery (not all nurseries though). The availability of funding doesn't guarantee a nursery or preschool will have space though, you need to speak to them as a soon as poss.

For the free hours it will be January 2017
But they can start whenever you want them to if you pay for it
Have you checked to see if they are eligible for 2 year funding?

As with Pp Jan 17 unless you qualify for funding at 2 years old. I think that this is just in England though.
