Hi mums,
I am in the early stages of opening a nursery and I am looking for some feedback on what you have decided what works for you.
Is your preference to send your child to a nursery closer to work or closer to home, and why?
Any thoughts welcome, many thanks in advance.
Hanna

Home, because my work is not in one location.

Home because DH and I work in different towns, in opposite directions to the one we live in, and we want both of us to be able to do drop offs and pick ups. Also sometimes I work at home so wouldn't want a 50min round trip just to drop DD at childcare. Also helps when GPs are staying and they can drop off or collect easily.

Home because I commute on the train into a city and it wouldn't be at all fun to take DC on a crowded train every day.

I went for one near home I wanted to get baby girl there quickly and know she would not bee sitting in the car for ages with me. OMG! I hate travelling by car - hope baby girl is not as car sick as the rest of us!

Home - you don't want to have a child with you on the commute if you can help it. The nursery would have to be something unique to use one near work.

Home. Easier for pick ups and drop offs if parents work in different locations, easier if you change job locations, and if parent is unwell on a nursery day (or even just has a day off) it's simple to drop DC off and head home again.

The only time this would be different for me was if the nursery was on my work site and I was driving (not train) less than 25 mins to get to work.

Work. DH and I work in same city and can't always guarantee that we could be on the train required to collect DS on time whereas if a meeting was running on we can at least dash out and be at the nursery in 5 mins. It means we take the car on nursery days but it's worked out fine.

Neither. It's half way between home and DH's work and is a bit of a detour even then, but we fell in love with it, and it was more important that they had somewhere perfect to go. They also only go for two days, so it's not like he's doing it 5 days a week.

Home. Or DD would fall asleep in the car on the way home and never go to bed.

Home as we both share drop/pick, you wouldn't want a baby/child on the underground if you can avoid it and we don't always work from the office so having the nursery near one of our workplaces wouldn't be great
