My 2.5 year old has been at nursery now (3 sessions a week (3-4 hrs each)for over a month. She cries everyday, and often throughout the session. Nothing has helped - We've tried taking in a fav toy, her own cup, talking about nursery at home, reassuring her that 'mummy always comes back' - I started her early as wanted her to settle before i went back to work so ce having her younger sister (who's settling fine at 6months). Now Im feeling very guility! My huby feels that whatever age we started hr that she would have cried and that we should perservere. Its week 5 now, and I'm really not sure what to do! any advice welcomed!

My best friend had exactly the same issue with her little boy (nearly 3yrs old), the nursery were brilliant.....initially she would drop son off but stay until he was occupied, then she would say goodbye & leave.....but only for about 15mins, then she'd return & they'd go home!! Gradually they increased amount of time mum would stay away and eventually he was doing full sessions (took approx 2months). Perseverance was definitely the key, but not easy!!!
Also, my health visitor told me that separation anxiety is usually more of an issue between the age of 1.5 -2.5 yrs so you may find that in 6 months time this wont be such an issue?!
My 3 year old starts nursery in April, I'm hoping he settles quickly because I'm going back to work Sad, Goodluck......hope it all works out!!!
