Hi there, my daughter is doing a child development course at school and has to ask people that work in nurseries a short questionnaire on number play. If you can spare a few minutes to help her out that will be fantastic. Many thanks, Sarah

I don't mind helping- I typed out a massive reply to the last request but the thread got deleted ! (If it was the same one?)

maybe it would be better to copy and paste the questions and message them to us (or is that not allowed either?)

Hi there,
Thank you all so much and yes, teacherlikesapples, it is the same one that got deleted. Am new to the site so not sure what I did wrong for it to get deleted? Here are the questions, I hope you can all see them ok!

  1. What is the age range of the children in your care?
  2. How do you teach children aged 0-18 months about numbers?
  3. How do you teach children aged 18-24 months about numbers?
  4. How do you adjust your teaching methods for different skill sets?
  5. Do you have targets for the children to reach by certain ages?
  6. Have the teaching methods changed at all in the time you have been working with children?
  7. Do you focus more/less/equally on number skills as others eg:creative play, words?
  8. Are there specific tools you use to teach the children 18-24 months eg:blocks, rhymes?
  9. To help, do you teach them maths terms eg: more than, less than, first etc?

10. Which of the tools used do the children aged 18-24 months respond to better?
Many thanks again,
Sarah

  1. What is the age range of the children in your care?

I care for 0-16 months, but the nursery cares for 0-5 and I have looked after 0-3 years

  1. How do you teach children aged 0-18 months about numbers? number songs, abacus, telephones, clocks general talk about time/numbers

  1. How do you teach children aged 18-24 months about numbers? same as above, counting games, looking for numbers repeating number sequences

  1. How do you adjust your teaching methods for different skill sets? teach children at the right skill levelby kknowing the children within my care what they are capable of and what next steps to take

  1. Do you have targets for the children to reach by certain ages? No

  1. Have the teaching methods changed at all in the time you have been working with children? Not really, more relaxed now

  1. Do you focus more/less/equally on number skills as others eg:creative play, words? It like most things becomes part of the daily things we do, e.g as we build a tower of bricks we count the blocks before they get knocked down

  1. Are there specific tools you use to teach the children 18-24 months eg:blocks, rhymes? not really

  1. To help, do you teach them maths terms eg: more than, less than, first etc? no, but I do care for babies mostly

10. Which of the tools used do the children aged 18-24 months respond to better? one on one time with carers
