I started potty training my dd over the weekend and it went amazingly well. I was encouraged to do it by her nursery and so expected they would be vigilant and careful to carry on what I had started. yesterday morning I asked them to take her to the toilet regularly. I went back in the afternoon to find she had wet herself at least 4 times and as far as I could tell had not done one wee on a potty or toilet. worse than that, she had asked to do a poo and been left on her own in a little toilet cubicle and left to get on with it and the poo went on the floor and she, of course, stepped in to it. I'm so cross about this as they knew it was early days and she needs supervision. Dd is not at that nursery tomorrow but I want to call them and speak with them to find out why she was left on her own. Do you think this is reasonable? what are other people experiences of nurseries and toilet training?
Hi, you would not be unreasonable to call her nursery and ask. I work in a nursery, and have helped potty train quite a few children. We are told to follow the parents/carers instructions as to carry on the potty training process whilst the child is at nursery in our care. And give any advise if we feel it is needed. All children should be supervised whilst going to the toilet/ washing hands regardless of being potty trained or not. It is against Safeguarding rules to leave a child unattended or at least checked on if a member of staff can not stay near the bathroom. You definitely need to talk to the Manager or at least The Room Leader (who ever is in charge of the class your daughter is in) I also know that a lot of children do amazingly well at home but then get so engrossed in their play they forget to go to the toilet whilst at nursery but someone should be asking if she needs the toilet regularly or taking her to "try" if its been a while since she last went. sorry for the essay! Lol Good luck with the toilet training
