Looking at nurseries

This is a silly question, I know but how does one arrange to have a look at a nursery? Do you just ring the reception and ask to arrange a visit? Or do you write to them via email/snail mail? Or do you have to wait for the open days?

I am new to all this and have a couple of places I want to look at, but I don't know the politest way of asking and I'd like to make a good impression anywhere I go.

I think it depends on the nursery. I get the feeling my nursery is terribly disorganised... I used their online form, heard nothing. My husband rang, never got called back. I sent a letter, didn't hear anything. Called, was told I'd be called back. Wasn't. Eventually I gave up and just rang every day!!
Had I not desperately wanted to send DS there I certainly would have given up after the first couple of attempts.

I think the best thing to do is call, and don't be afraid to call back if they don't get back in touch, I'm sure they won't mind being reminded!

I rang the ones I was interested in and asked them what their procedure was for visiting. We then agreed a mutually convenient time.

best thing to do is just appear there, obviously not around midday cos its dinnertime.manager of my nursery and others say just turn up.you will only see if for what it really us if you just turn up.the manager if my sons encouraged us to do so.theres always going to be someone to get the door and to show you round if its staffed correctly.

I agree with Limited. Just pop in because you were just passing Wink. Between 9 and 11, or 1.30 and 5 ideally. Give them no chance to tidy up and see if the manager/deputy can be spared in the ratios. Of course, they might have an important meeting and not be able to see you.

I agree either phone and make an appointment with the nursery manager/owner or just turn up. We have lots of people turn up to look at mine, they are made to feel welcome and usually put their child in - win, win all round
