Grayson Perry C4 Series - Solo Mothers by choice

(1 Post)
MEDIA: Thu 24-Aug-17 13:00:29

Hi - my name is Charlotte, I would love to speak with solo / single mums by choice who are currently pregnant and due in the next few months.

I work for Swan Films (www.swanfilms.tv) an award winning company. We are are making a documentary series about rites of passage with the Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry. It will explore key transitions in our lives such as birth, coming-of-age, marriage and death.

Grayson Perry is one of the UK’s leading artists and we have made several documentaries with him over the years. They have been praised for their sensitivity and thoughtfulness, and won numerous awards including BAFTA's. Our previous series have examined the themes of masculinity, identity, gender and social class. For all the documentaries we make with Grayson, he explores an important contemporary issue by spending with people who are affected by the issue and have something to say about it, and then Grayson makes an artwork in response to what he has experienced.

For this series, Grayson is exploring ‘rites of passage’ – the rituals and ceremonies that our society offers to people at the key moments and transitions of their lives. One of the key rites of passage in life is, of course, birth.
Our series will be reflective of contemporary Britain and so for the documentary about Birth we would like to speak with people who have chosen to conceive on their own and are currently embarking on solo parenthood. We would also like to speak with individuals who are embarking on alternative forms of parenting and are due to give birth within the next few months.

We intend on exploring this in a positive way and to highlight and celebrate alternative families, focusing on how best to mark and ritualise modern milestones. We will not begin filming until October, but are very keen to start dialogues with people now, so that we can build a relationship over the coming months.

Please get in touch with Charlotte if you would like more information about the project or would like to view links to our previous documentaries to get more of a sense of the tone this programme will take:
