Hello

I am New to Mumsnet and am the Mum of 2 boys 10 and 8.

We have had many struggles with health over the years particularly my eldest who developed ceoliac disease when he was 6 which went undiagnosed for a year. Since then he has been prone to other allergies and has been very unwell, having to be continually monitored for what he was eating. My youngest too has had health issues, which have also been challenging. More recently I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

I came on to partly reassure people that you can get through this, and to share what helped us. As a parent I felt guilty, depressed and anxious for my children. My children particlularly my eldest had issues at school due to the brain fog induced by coeliac when they have comsummed or are exposed to gluten and the poor state of his gut, which I now understand has a link to the brain. Their health issues also made me over protective of my children impacting on them my anxiety also produced anxiety in them.

We eventually turned to a homeopath and a natural allergy elimination practioner(NAET) as traditional medical practioners kept telling me my sons aching joints pains etc were not a symptom of allergy, I knew my son better than that and knew that this was one of his symptoms. At one point he was told to take pain killers and that he was fine to go to school. He is now feeling the best he has for years and is able to so much more, he is building up his activity again and is actually feeling well.

After being scared, anxious and stress, after I had a cancer scare and being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with I have now moved forward, losing 3 stone in weight and have my blood sugars under control without the use of medication. I have now set up a practise as a therapist in Banstead Surrey.

I show parents of children and children who have ceoliac, diabetes and other health issues struggling with stress, anxiety and depression how to feel more confident, less stressed and more in control. As the parent of a child who has ceoliac disease and a number of allergies I understand the challenges both you and your child face.

I also help individuals with a variety of other issues such as fears, phobias, exam nerves, self esteem, body image, self confidence and weight loss.

So parents of children diagnosed with ceoliac and other long term illnesses, you can come out of the other end of it and start to lead a relatively normal life.
