Moving to Maidenhead

Hi,
Myself my husband and my 1 year old are moving to the Windsor area for my husbands work. We’re looking for a nice apartment in a nice area, with good links to London as we have family/friends there.
We considered living in Windsor but apartments are smaller and more expensive. We love the train access to London from Maidenhead and that while small it still has some sort of a high street but I’ve read mixed reviews about how safe it is.

Can anyone tell me what it’s like? Is it relatively safe? Are there areas to look for or avoid in terms of living?

I grew up in Maidenhead and I work there now. I would consider it very safe but I guess it depends specifically what you mean - I wouldn’t walk around on my own at night there but I wouldn’t do that anywhere? I wouldn’t say there was any specific areas of Maidenhead to avoid, there are nice and less nice patches dotted around everywhere but isn’t that the same of most towns? I think you’d know when you viewed though. But there’s no specific large areas to avoid. By the river is the nicest place and most expensive.

Thank you @katiemumma20 that’s really reassuring. I just mean feeling generally safe walking out and about with a toddler during the day. I agree I wouldn’t go out alone at night where I currently live but still feel perfectly safe otherwise.
Will see how we feel when we go do some viewings, we were just worried we might not get the best feel for things with current COVID lockdowns

No worries. Oh yeah it’s absolutely safe walking around in the day! I walked and cycled everywhere as a teenager, used to walk a mile or so into town and back regularly or to friends houses. Like I mentioned there might be a few odd spots that aren’t as nice to walk through but unless you live on those roads you wouldn’t be walking through them :) there’s lots of nice parks and green spaces to walk round and I’d be really really surprised if anyone said there was anywhere in Maidenhead they didn’t feel safe walking with a toddler in the day time. I’m a very safety conscious person so I’m not just oblivious to it :) if there’s any particular areas you’re wondering about let me know as I know it very well.

(By the way I’m in my late 20s so when I saw I walked around as a teen I’m not talking about 50 years ago! I’d still do that now if I didn’t have a car).

Thank you @katiemumma20 that’s so helpful. Keeping an eye on rightmove and will make sure to go checkout the area before we make any final decisions

@WingingIt30 I would say Maidenhead is very safe for walking about - the high street / centre of town isn’t the most attractive, but I’ve never felt unsafe around the place.
We have lots of open green space around, including a “green way” that runs through the town centre and out into fields / nature park either side.
It’s a great place to live to have good connections to London (train / motorway) but have countryside on your doorstep. The centre of town is gradually being improved. There have been lots of smart apartment blocks going up over the last 5 years - mostly driven by crossrail I guess.
Happy to answer any specific questions via PM

Thank you so much @TeaandHobnobs lovely to hear Maidenhead seems to be safe for a young family and very much looking forward to all the greenery especially with current lockdown climate.
