My ipod needs updating.

Who's new?

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 20:05:51

...and good.

Maxwell has a new cd that has gotten good reviews.

He's not new, but hasn't put anything out in such a long time that many don't know him.

Mayer Hawthorne and Alice Russell

( I am reliably informed grin )

MIAonline Sun 06-Sep-09 20:18:34

Oh and Raphael Saadiq

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 20:20:06

ooh maxwell was popular about 10 years ago wasn't he?

i'm off to see if i can find some samples online. thanks.

Earlybird Sun 06-Sep-09 20:21:15

Yes, he was. He's not nearly so beautiful now, but supposedly he's made a good album.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 20:28:45

alice russell sounds good.
prefer women singers tbh.

Have you heard much of Nicole Willis and the soul investigators?

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings?

You have probably heard them, but thought it was worth a try. I love Nicole Willis.

smile

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 20:48:22

i've got some sharon jones and the dap kings but not nicole willis.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 20:51:09

nicole willis is sounding a bit brand new heavies. hmm it's not really doing it.

MIAonline Sun 06-Sep-09 21:35:09

ooh, you are a tricky customer!

Naomi Shelton and the gospel queens

Cookin on 3 burners -soul messin is a good album

Shawn Lee - soul in the hole

Laura Vane and the viper tones

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 22:12:12

hmmm, maybe laura vane.

but NO FUNK and NO JAZZ and NO GOSPEL CHURCH ORGANS please grin

think alicia keys, angie stone, jill scott (but without all the talky bits)

fuck it, i'll just have to record an album myself if no-ones doing it.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 22:16:23

gospel is fine, but not the organs.

MIAonline Sun 06-Sep-09 22:20:23

I think the problem is that all the best stuff has been done already!

Now if we were comparing what we like already, from what you have listed, I am sure there would be a good cross over, but new stuff is always harder to recommend and harder to like.

One last go though...

The most recent 'Hill St. Soul' album.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 22:25:43

oooh, good voice. we might be onto something here.

MIAonline Sun 06-Sep-09 22:29:23

At last! I can go to bed happy now grin

Will have a think and come back tomorrow if I think of anything.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 22:31:24

great, i'm just listening to a few tracks from myspace.
happy now.
thankyou smile

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 22:38:36

laura izibor any good?

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 22:45:01

just listened to 'don't stay' on her myspace.
very good.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 22:49:04

ok, when you get back, can i have your (or your reliably informed) opinions on chrisette michele and laura izibor.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 06-Sep-09 23:31:36

mrsMH, hoping this thread catches your eye although i can see you're a bit busy.

MrsMerryHenry Sun 06-Sep-09 23:57:22

This is such a racist thread. I'm reporting you, googlebutter, you disingenuous Harlem-folk-hating anti-Afro platesmashing non-inbreed!

(err, it was Harlem you went to, right?)

grin

Nighty.

MrsMerryHenry Sun 06-Sep-09 23:58:58

Oh, laura izibor - yeah, nice, nothing spesh, but nice music and a lovely girl. Interesting ethnic background, too! (ROFL ROFL ROFL)

Maybe you'd like Concha Buika - soul mixed with flamenco.

nevergoogledragonbutter Mon 07-Sep-09 08:04:44

ahem, the bronx, near the zoo

you're not black enough for my thread mrsMH. be off with you.
