Got a week to compile our holiday car cd, please help! Looking for nice singalong songs that aren't too annoyingly kiddy but have something that would appeal to kids. So far I have:

Autumn Almanac by The Kinks (has a caterpillar in it)

Maxwell's Silver Hammer? I always used to love that, never mind that it was about a serial murderer hmm It's got a very satisfying rhythm and is less kiddy than Octopus's Garden (which I also like, tbh).

Will have a think/look through my CDs.

Wake me Up Before you Go Go - Wham

Blame it on the Boogie - Jacko

My DS1's favourite "grown up" songs include Brimful of Asha (Cornerstore), anything by the Ting Tings (especially "That's not my name" - he loves yelling out the names), the monster song too just like Soup Dragon's children and Country Roads (John Denver - DH's unwholesome music influence there...)

Cornerstore???? Cornershop blush Spent too long speaking to american sister in law this morning...

midnightexpress Sun 02-Aug-09 14:38:30

My two (3 and 2) are currently listening avidly to Bob Dylan: ds1 likes the one (can't remember what it's called) that starts 'She knows what she likes, she's an artist, she don't look back' and ds2 likes 'Mixing up the Medicine', aka Subterranean Homesick Blues.

Their other fave is Gillian Welch.

They are heavily into Americana. We may have to move to Nashville and turn them into a child act I think.

dinkystinky, perhaps we could take your ds with you if he likes John Denver. We'll make it a trio. grin

Paolosgirl Sun 02-Aug-09 14:39:59

Bohemian Rhapsody - all that headbanging usually goes down well

dinkystinky Sun 02-Aug-09 14:43:55

Midnightexpress - I was almost at the point of ebaying DS1 yesterday so may just take you up on your offer wink - will keep me looked after in my retirement...

Meglet Sun 02-Aug-09 14:46:14

We have Ting Tings and Mcfly. 2.9yo DS also likes Blur 'Song 2'.

I got the V V Brown cd yesterday and there's a few on there that are lovely and bouncy to listen to. www.amazon.co.uk/Travelling-Like-Light-VV-Brown/dp/B001G6RRBM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1249220627&sr=8 -1

Anything by Dan Zanes & Friends OR Trout Fishing in America (they are ABSOLUTELY A TRIP). B is for Bob is Ziggy Marley's new kids album here. It is GROOVY!

crockydoodle Sun 02-Aug-09 14:52:34

My kids' favourite when I am driving is "Crash".

dinkystinky Sun 02-Aug-09 14:55:25

Midnightexpress - that is excellent! DS1 also loves that song...

TwilightSurfer Sun 02-Aug-09 15:01:10

I almost forgot:
Imaginatin Movers THE ROCK!

Dan Zanes House Party

Trout Fishing in America (reese is dancing to The Window as i type)

LoveBuckets Sun 02-Aug-09 15:02:38

Oh some great ideas thanks. DH has just added Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon to the listsmile.

On the Americana tip, might stick in some Joan Baez as that's what was obligatory on my childhood holidays. Guantanamera maybe, just to annoy DH.

TwilightSurfer Sun 02-Aug-09 15:03:21

okay that should read "they rock" and i added links to the other two suggestions that i forgot to tag links to in my other post.

crazy lady out.........
