Or even something more modern yet before 1991.

gigglewitch Tue 30-Jun-09 13:50:53

1812 overture?!!!! grin

Iklboo Tue 30-Jun-09 13:51:27

Definitely 1812!

KerryMumbles Tue 30-Jun-09 13:52:20

ah but 1812, don't know....

something ominous. threatening even

ShauntheSheep Tue 30-Jun-09 13:52:32

lol gigglewitch got there before me.

You been to Classical Spectacular at the Albert Hall by any change GW? [Grin]

gigglewitch Tue 30-Jun-09 13:54:34

lol - no I play in orchestras. One time they put a bloke with a canon straight behind the first violins and my skin and bones parted company shock grin

Iklboo Tue 30-Jun-09 13:56:15

Mars from The Planet Suite also makes me think of gunfire

Bramshott Tue 30-Jun-09 13:56:55

Haydn's Military Symphony?

gigglewitch Tue 30-Jun-09 13:59:38

Was also thinking planets suite. (great minds etc) Also wondered if something like the opening of carmina burana - O Fortuna or vite perdite or similar smile

what do you need it for?

KerryMumbles Tue 30-Jun-09 14:00:16

i saw 1812 done by the Boston Symphony Orchestra on the river charles. They did the freaking cannon as well. It was magic. The river was covered with boats. Starlight.

Except for the mossies. Bastards.

KerryMumbles Tue 30-Jun-09 14:01:07

i'm writing a scene. It's rather small thing but want to listen to music while I write. Also character will be thinking of this piece of music

Iklboo Tue 30-Jun-09 14:01:35

Ooh Dies Irae as well!

OrmIrian Tue 30-Jun-09 14:02:10

Ooh how about Mars from the Planets (Holst). Not gunfire as such but menacing. You could always add the gunfire you know - my dad has an ancient air rifle I'm sure he'd be happy to lend you grin

gigglewitch Tue 30-Jun-09 14:02:31

right - go for the Planets Suite by Holst then. Mars and Jupiter imho smile

OrmIrian Tue 30-Jun-09 14:02:59

Oh too late sad

dies irae also a good suggestion. Thinks very hard....

KerryMumbles Tue 30-Jun-09 14:06:21

ah thanks orm. may take you up on it.

grin

am listening to tchaikovski atm.

not convinced.

will move onto mars next i think

you guys are great!

AnarchyAunt Tue 30-Jun-09 14:06:35

What about the music from Peter and the Wolf that symbolises the hunters' guns?

Lio Tue 30-Jun-09 14:07:57

The 'whoomp whoomp whoomp' bit from the Rite of Spring is scary and maybe staccato-y enough?

KerryMumbles Tue 30-Jun-09 14:11:50

what was that music they had in The Omen?

KerryMumbles Tue 30-Jun-09 14:12:49

Yeah. Yeah.

Mars.

Digging it.

smile

Iklboo Tue 30-Jun-09 14:13:05

That's O Fortuna

Iklboo Tue 30-Jun-09 14:14:29

I think Mars because it's subtitled 'Bringer of War' or something, It was that piece that really got me into classical music as a ikl iklboo

ABetaDad Tue 30-Jun-09 14:29:55

Oh yes, I always want canon fire at the end of O Fortuna from Carmina Burana as well.

Alternatively, a slightly more modern classic with actual gunfire is "Shotgun Wedding" by Rod Stewart. grin

KerryMumbles Tue 30-Jun-09 14:47:18

though i now find myself listening to Ode to Joy for some strange reason....

OrmIrian Tue 30-Jun-09 14:50:42

Now that is overwhelming in a different way. I use it as running music and in the past found it helped me with essays.
