the elements

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump Mon 20-Oct-08 17:02:11

grin. Yes. Fab.

I hold your hand in mine, dear,
I press it to my lips,
I take a healthy bite of
Your dainty fingertips.
My joy would be complete, dear,
If you were only here,
But still I keep your hand as
A special souvenir

(appropriate for Halloweengrin).

Yes.
When I am happy in the spring I sing 'Poisoning Pigeons in the Park'.

Was disappointed to discover Lobachevsky was a perfectly ordinary mathematician and not a famous plagiarist sad

sfxmum Mon 20-Oct-08 17:04:37

yes long standing fan

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump Mon 20-Oct-08 17:04:55

Yes -

MorticiaAnnSpookington Mon 20-Oct-08 17:05:49

my dad used to have all the records and we loved them as kids - I learned the elements one by heart once...

I love 'Be prepared'

'If you're looking for adventure of a new and different kind
And you come across a girl scout who is similarly inclined
Don't be nervous, don't be flustered, don't be scared,
Be prepared!'

MorticiaAnnSpookington Mon 20-Oct-08 17:11:57

one for my fellow Catholics

In My Home Town

'I remember Sam
He was the village idiot
And thought it seems a pity it
Was so
He used to burn down houses just to watch the glow
And nothing could be done
Because he was the mayor's son'

Yes, brings back memories of my Mum. Not sure of my fave's title but it goes 'About a girl I'll sing a song, sing rickety, tickety tin....she did every one of them in'.

Very amusing and we all thought they were 'naughty' songs and glad to be allowed to hear them.

TheFallenMadonna Mon 20-Oct-08 17:16:10

grin

Am thinking of posting a link to that on another thread where someone is asking all about Catholicism...

I play the elements annually when teaching the periodic table.

I say, right, listen to this carefully, and then I'm going to ask you to write down as many elements as you can remember...

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil Mon 20-Oct-08 17:16:47

"When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide."

grin

TheArmadillo Mon 20-Oct-08 17:18:00

I love his songs.

Especially the smut one.

MorticiaAnnSpookington Mon 20-Oct-08 17:18:03

I used to find this song a comfort...

Oh we will all fry together when we fry.
We'll be french fried potatoes by and by.
There will be no more misery
When the world is our rotisserie,
Yes, we will all fry together when we fry.

OMG Now you're talking, A Tom Lehrer thread.

In Old Mexico

At last, the matador did what we wanted him to.
He raised his sword and his aim was true.
In that moment of truth I suddenly knew
That someone had stolen my wallet.

Or my all time fav..about Oedipus

So be sweet and kind to Mother,
Now and then have a chat.
Buy her candy or some flowers or a brand new hat.
But maybe you had better let it go at that!

HE IS BRILLIANT grin

MorticiaAnnSpookington Mon 20-Oct-08 17:21:08

I'm so happy that people love him too !

TskullsScreaming Mon 20-Oct-08 17:21:35

Oh and I often think to myself grimly about 'sliding down the razor blade of life' thanks to Tom.

Nagapie Mon 20-Oct-08 17:22:26

this

Blandmum Mon 20-Oct-08 17:23:49

'Get in line in that processional
Step into that small confessional
there the guys who's got religion'll
Tell you if your sin's original'

genius

I use the Elements every time I teach the subject

taliac Mon 20-Oct-08 17:24:28

I loved Neil Hannon's version of "I hold your hand in mine"

In fact, thats how I discovered Tom Lehrer.

MorticiaAnnSpookington Mon 20-Oct-08 17:26:57

MB - was thinking of you with The Elements !!

WowOoo Mon 20-Oct-08 17:28:33

It's 'The Irish Ballad'. Used to think it was hysterical and I still do!

Blandmum Mon 20-Oct-08 17:28:43

The kids love it!

We managed to play it in about 4 lessons a few weeks ago.

In the end they were throwing their hand up in the air every time they heard a metal!

LOL
