At a risk of sounding rather morbid, what music would you want played at your funeral?

I sadly went to a funeral yesterday and it made me think of writing out what I want, should I die.

There is so much music that means something to me, but what would you want playing at your send off?

I am thinking of:

Al Green - Ain't No Sunshine
Robbie Williams - Feel
Evanescence - My Immortal
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Westlife - You Raise Me Up

Tragedy - Steps version... I want everyone to do the dance routine and be suitably devastated that I'm dead. grin

Street Spirit by radiohead and then my DH can pick the others, he would prob pick brown eyed girl.

We chose moving on up for my fathers as MPeople was one of his favorites.

And more recently we went to a great and moving service which they played smoke on the water and everyone had tears in their eyes, as it was so our friend that we lost

My husband has instructions that I am to be taken through to the sound of 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life'

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the light side of life.

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle.
That's the thing.

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life,

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.

Always look on the bright side of death,
Just before you draw your terminal breath.

Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life......

Seriously. That's the final tune for me! grin

Oooh - this is weird. I've literally just finished telling dh what I want at my funeral - [freaky emoticon]

I'm having Christine McVie singing Songbird, and Angela Gheorghiu singing O Mio Babbino Caro

I also want the poem I Did Not Die read -

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.

I'm going to have a very nice funeral smile - many years from now hopefully

Burn Baby Burn by Ash at the appropriate time - and You and Me song somewhere during "service" although hardly likely there'll be any music as planning a very simple plain, green humanist thing

Nappyzoneneedsanewname Sat 02-Aug-08 21:04:22

REM - everybody hurts
Westlife song - dont know name but says things like 'i wanna grow old with you, i wanna die lying in your arms.....'

I am thinking of starting a web based company called - there everything can be planned into minute detail, and paid for too!

Then all your family has to do is contact them (you will of course get a card to carry in your purse, saying "MY funeral arrangements are with, please email them to let them know I have died, and await further instructions.")

They can just turn up at your funeral, totally hassle free to them, because YOU have planned it all!

Does that sound like a good idea?

moshie Sat 02-Aug-08 21:07:58

Oh Hecate, we had that at dad's. We wondered if it was the right thing to do, but it was so 'him' it was just right. We did have the version without the swearing though because he wouldn't have appreciated that.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt Sat 02-Aug-08 21:09:31

Like it Quint.

Dh has a Roxy Music song planned because it features French and whistling which he thinks is beyond pretentious and therefore perfect. I have Keane can't stop now planned. ('can't stop now I've got troubles of my own' or something).

MaureenMLove Sat 02-Aug-08 21:09:32

For a control freak like me QS, that sounds absolutely perfect!

sagacious Sat 02-Aug-08 21:10:40

Primal Scream : Higher than the sun.

Quint: Trademark that idea .. quickly !

Nappyzoneneedsanewname Sat 02-Aug-08 21:11:53

Quientessential i think its a good idea i really do but i would rather have fun with my own money and allow others to pay for my last doo in fear i will be ripped off as the ocmpany will go under and my £2k would be lost forever! (i dont mean their money - they are welcome to use any insurance as i wont need it) I know im a synic...

Yes and no, Quint. Yes, in that the idea of it all being planned in advance means that you know you'll get what you want, without the grieving rellies having to make the decisions for you. No - only because a distant family member died a few months ago, and although she had paid for her funeral through some plan or other, the funeral company and the plan company didn't tie up as it was supposed to (I forget the details). If you could get that all sorted, then fab idea - go for it! smile

TheLurkinGherkin Sat 02-Aug-08 21:13:58

Burn baby burn - disco inferno

Nappyzoneneedsanewname Sat 02-Aug-08 21:14:00

I suppose it would be good yes i agree if when you croak they contact your company and then they get a nice bill for you to do it rather than having to pay upfront...
