Oh god I miss The Smiths. I think they are the most under rated British band. EVER.

maidamess Sat 19-Jul-08 22:49:29

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now

expatinscotland Sat 19-Jul-08 22:53:46

my fav line:

'Oh the devil will find work for idle hands to do.
I stole and I lied and why
because you asked me to.'

I.love.the.Smiths.

And in the darkened Underpass,
I thought 'Oh God, my chance has come at last'...
But then a strange fear gripped me,
And I just couldn't ask.

I feel 15 again, writing this on my pencil case!

Can't stand the Smiths.

wessexgirl Sat 19-Jul-08 22:59:16

'I dreamt about you last night
And I fell out of bed twice
You can pin and mount me like a butterfly'.

maidamess Sat 19-Jul-08 23:00:07

Did you all think that if you met Morrissey you'd become best mates and sit about drinking tea all day?

I did.

frankiesbestfriend Sat 19-Jul-08 23:01:31

Ooooooh a Smiths appreciation thread....

How can they look into my eyes and still they don't believe me?

purplepumpkin Sat 19-Jul-08 23:03:14

sigh

frankiesbestfriend Sat 19-Jul-08 23:08:54

A dreaded sunny day so I'll meet you at the cemetry gates...

.....I LOVED the Smiths...

First heard them when a friend brought a tape of the first Peel session into 6th form the day after it was broadcast....

(miserable lie, handsome devil, and, I think, hand in glove)

...saw them twice. Once in 1983 when they were fresh off the press and wonderful, again in 85 when they were fine but the support (James) were a marvel.

I am, I know, an appalling geek.

...it's fun though...

wessexgirl Sat 19-Jul-08 23:11:33

Can't believe nobody's mentioned this timeless classic yet. When you say it's going to happen now...well, when exactly do you mean?

retiredgoth Sat 19-Jul-08 23:13:06

....and that song, "Rubber Ring", with the lyrics about the future..

"when you're laughing, and dancing, and finally living
hear my voice in your head and think of me kindly"

...which I do, 10 years on...

wessexgirl Sat 19-Jul-08 23:14:20

"I wear black on the outside
Cos black is how I feel on the inside"

(Does that one strike a chord too, retiredgoth wink.)

It does indeed!

....they were never really glum, though. I had Joy Division albums for REAL glum.

....the camp humour was always to the fore with the Smiths.

"for there are brighter sides to life, and I should know because I've seen them....
but not very often"

MegBusset Sat 19-Jul-08 23:21:14

Now, see, I did meet Morrissey! But failed to become best mates and drink all day. I did shake his hand, though -- he has a very manly grip.

...beat me to it MMJ.

Was searching for the clip with that song in Pretty in Pink....
