The cross over album with Robert Plant and Allison Krauss is superb - as is Krauss with her band (Union Station?), but may be that is too blue grass to be considered pure country?

The Be Good Tanyas are excellent, but maybe crossing over more to folk. Have you tried the Pandora website? If you tell it what you like, it will come up with loads of suggestions for stuff that is similar.

Lyle Lovett - funny, a great singer and songwriter, divorced from Julia Roberts. Who could want more?

I like the Dixie Chicks, particularly from the home album Travellin' Soldier and Godspeed (sweet dreams) and top of the world and .... hmm Maybe I should just suggest the whole album and leave it at that. I think it might be one of my favourite ever.

I have a couple of suggestions if you're still watching this...

bright eyes - one of my favourites! Probably more alternative/folky. Emmylou Harris did some backing vocals on one of their albums "I'm wide Awake It's Morning".

Also Dan Brodie - starts quite slow, you have to persevere for the first minute or so.

You just need to know two words: Willie Nelson.
