ABRSM Performance exam recording - Help!

Hello

Anybody taken the Peformance Grade with ABRSM online - i.e. by uploading a recording?

DC is taking hers instead of the normal practice exam due to covid.
We watched guidance video, webinar and read all info on website. They said both the performer and the stand must be in the picture.

However, after doing the recording, I realised you can only see half of DC's instrument (flute) as the stand obscures the other half.

Would this be a problem, enough for it not to be marked, or is it acceptable? Does anyone know?

Guidance video specifies you need to see the whole keyboard in the case of the piano, but it only says "the instrument" must be visible for anything else.

Deadline is in a couple of days so panicking a bit here. Could really do withouhgt having to record it again Sad.

Thanks all.

I wish I knew - we are doing the same for DS1 but on piano and there is no bloody way we can fit the whole keyboard in, plus him, plus his hands. We're just doing our best and the keys at one end of the keyboard are just going to be covered. It's such a pain.

Can you stand back further with the camera and angle it so she is 3/4 on, so the music stand is off to the side as it were? I'm sure you've already tried that...

Thank you Xiaoxiong.

It's a pain isn't it? Not everyone has their house set up for perfect camera angles!

We can record it again with the flute fully visible. The problem is that DD was all he geared up and we did it the other day during her class.

Now she's not in 'the zone' and it all feels rushed. We had to record it a few times due to unwanted noises, interruptions, forgetting to say the name of one tune, that sort of thing.

Been tempted to send the video in as is, but don't want to get it wrong.

I don't feel competent enough to be the 'responsible' adult!

Send them the question, they respond quite quickly

I’m having more trouble trying to book even an online slot for piano. Driving me nuts.

I've just had to do it for drum kit. Nearly had to move all the furniture out into the street to get all of the kit and both arms and legs in shot.

Ah, sorry Marsha and Rae, I hadn't seen your responses.

You made me laugh Rae. This made me realise my house is more cluttered and smaller than I thought Grin. I hope the exam went well. Sounds like a challenge. Did you film from the side, from behind, hovering above??

Hope you managed to find a slot, Marsha. Another stressful side of lockdown...

We ended up re-recording it at the weekend. Not ideal, but I'd have felt like an absolute tool if it had been turned down because of that.
