Learning The Guitar

Please can someone tell me, is it difficult learn to play the guitar?
I played the piano as a child, a long time ago. I know the notation is in a different form, but not really sure how I'd get on. And do yuou have to have short finger nails. Thanks.

My DS (20) plays .
Short nails his his left hand , long on the right .
Not creepy talons but enough to make you go Eh? then you see the left hand .

Short fingernails definitely on the left hand. Right hand it depends how you play. If you're going to use a plectrum all the time, you may as well have matching short nails.
