Have I bought the right guitar for DS8?

Just looking for advice as I don't have a musical bone in my body so a bit out of my depth.
DS8 did group accoustic guitar lessons at school earlier in the year and really enjoyed it and seemed to take to it quite well. The price included the loan of a guitar to take home for the term to practice on which wad great.
Unfortunately they changed the way they booked the music lessons so we missed the deadline for his term but will get him back in for after christmas but I wanted to buy him his own guitar. Did some research and just bought a yamaha cs40 3/4 classical guitar nylon string...is this ok for a beginner? Will this be ok for private 1-1 lessons too? (Going to look into them after another term of group lessons) And also what beginner music books would you recommend? How do we go about tuning it when needed?
Sorry for all the questions, just don't want my cluelessness to hold him back!

Electric tuners are really easy to use

Was he learning on a nylon string classical guitar before? I thought most people started on a steel strung? But I'm no expert, just went to some adult ed guitar classes for a while and everyone seemed to have steel strings.

Perhaps emailing the tutor or course provider for recommendations would be good.

Also getting a spare set of strings is a good idea as it's easy to accidentally snap one if you're not used to tuning.

Also book wise, there are so many different styles/methods. From what I remember playing Spanish/classical is a very different method to learning rock/pop. Lots of people learn using tablature & chord charts, more classical methods use traditional music sight reading, so it would be best to follow on the method he has already started.
