...is 50 years old today!

(For the unacquainted - it's the Beatles' greatest album - their 7th - perhaps the greatest ever album).

Just wanted to share the love. The Beatles are the most influential musicians ever; this is true whether or not they're your cup of tea.

Macca is hated on these boards but he is an avant-garde genius and way ahead of the curve. And Ringo is a top-notch drummer.

Anyone else a Revolver super-fan?

Well... see my username Grin I malsoust admit to also naming my son after a Beatle

I can never understand the hatred for Paul- totally agree about his genius.

I must admit to bring very judgemental of those who can't at least appreciate their music I am looking at you Mother

I absolutely love Revolver! Underplayed in my opinion. I think Here, there and everywhere is my favourite.

My parents and I often laugh about how accurate Taxman is.

Yes aybcs I've clocked your username previously - it's my favourite Beatles song (a Lennon one! Shock).

I think 'not getting' The Fabs is fair enough. Rubbishing their influence and importance, however, is Not On Grin

I always think George was a bit of an arse for writing Taxman :) And Paul Weller was an arse for stealing it wholesale ('Start')

For No One is one of my favourite songs. Love this album, reminds me of being 15 and acting terribly wise...whilst knowing fuck all. Happy days.

Revolver is still in my most played albums list today, I think it holds up incredibly well.

Oh yes, For no one. I love that too and Got to get you into my life. Am going to have to listen to it again now.

Why did you think George was an arse for writing Taxman Yoko?

There's an amazing end-scene in Mad Men where Don Draper puts Tomorrow Never Knows on the stereo and immediately takes it off, because it represents the new guard and he can't keep up. It's such an important event in pop history.

Ah see I am a Lennon woman but I think Paul is bloody amazing and appreciate him more and more as I get older. Together they were pure magic (I am naming baby I am currently pregnant with after a Paul song to even if up. I have also probably outed myself to anyone who knows me so will have to namechange again Grin)

50 years though!! Incredible

Well, he was quite a rich young man by this stage and shouldn't have been moaning about getting shafted by the Taxman when the people buying the album were potentially a fair bit poorer than he was :) I tend to think we're owned by the government from the day we're born, so why complain?

I know what you mean Yoko. A bit like rich celebs who tell us ordinary folk we should donate all our money to charity. (I'm sure one of your millions would make more difference than my tenner!!!) I still like the song though because it's so very true.

Did you know it was sold for one day (today, 50 years ago) before John Lennon realised the wrong version of Tomorrow Never Knows was on it? Production was stopped and the proper version put out. It's a longer version of the song.

DH is a superfan and told me this today, I thought it was interesting Grin

Hah... how funny. I still have my Heaven Sent An Angel 12". As for The Beatles, was always more of a Stones fan myself.

Just posting to join the Macca appreciation society. His songs are incredible. On that album I really like Got to Get You Into My Life. You can hear the beginnings of Wings in there and something of Back in the USSR which just has so much energy.

I believe Revolver the Band were named after Revolver the Album...

backing think Macca was listening to a lot of Stax and soul in general, alongside the avant-garde, Stockhausen stuff at that point.

I'm a fan of his electronic period: Temporary Secretary etc.

My favourite album (bar yellow submarine and doctor robert). Tomorrow never knows and for no one best tracks. Love love love it. Stole my dad's vinyl and record player at the age of 11 I order to be able to listen at all times.

Yellow Submarine is a children's song, though, isn't it? It's meant to be nursery rhyme-ish, I think.
