Here we are, a week after Prince suddenly passed away. This is a thread to grieve, share your memories, thoughts, stories, videos and songs.

Let's keep on supporting each other in the name of The Beautiful One.

Marking place.

Still listening to Prince virtually non-stop - just have to make sure 7yo DD isn't listening to some of the lyrics!

Joining the new thread after a week of lurking. Just wanted to say it's been so amazing reading everyone's thoughts, seeing the video links and not being alone in how I feel. I loved Prince as a teenager in the early 90s - Diamonds and Pearls era - and got into his earlier stuff from that. I lost track of him during the symbol years and I guess thought he'd just always be around, because he always was around since I've loved music. So pissed off with myself that it's taken this to make me remember just how truly unique he was and how much he meant to me and shaped my teenage years. I so hope he knew just how much he was loved by us all.
Planning a Prince weekend with all the video links (what's left of them 😬) and then off to the Electric in Brum to see Purple Rain next week. DH thinks I'm a little mad, but thanks to you guys I know I'm not alone! xxx

Commutergirl I feel exactly the same, pissed off with myself for losing touch with Prince.
Destinys I love the title and picture.
So glad to have found you all at this sad time, I have no DH to be concerned about, just have to try to control my grief for my DCs sakes. DS said today 'how long is this period of mourning going to last?! Not sure...

What a beautiful picture Destiny. So many of us obsessing about him, and on a school night too! Meant to say, and it was said earlier in the week too, but one of the many things that strikes me as an adult (that I just didn't realise as a teenager, in the midst of my Prince obsession), is how positive and loving he was of women. I so, so love the Kiss video, where he's dancing around Wendy Melvoin! His female band members (not only the back-up singers, but musicians too!), his support and nurturing of female artists and his sex-positive but never disrespectful or objectifying lyrics. Took it all for granted at the time and now realise just how unique he was and how much he shaped my views of men and sexuality and relationships. I don't think Prince was consciously 'feminist', rather that he recognised and valued people for who they are, without macho/patriarchal bullshit clouding his perception. That's how it should be. He was just so true to us all! Kicking myself repeatedly for never seeing him live and insanely jealous of those of you that did!

Bouncy, I'm sure my DS is thinking the same as your DS when we're dancing around the kitchen to 1999 for the nth time.

Longtime lurker, I have finally been prompted to post because I still feel so sad after a week!
Something to do with finding him as a 14 year old and losing him in my late 40s. It has bought back so many feelings and I feel a bit of a confused mess. All I want to do is listen to prince songs and then I feel sad but I don't want to stop feeling this big mixed up confused emotion as if feels important somehow. Thanks for all the links, I think it is helping me sort myself out.

Welcome Nikki and glad this thread is helping you.

Just read this fascinating article about Wendy and Lisa and their contribution to Prince's music. Such a shame they fell out!
