I'll link this from the sound of music thread

DD is so excited!

spudmasher Sun 27-Dec-15 20:17:23

It's brill. We were lucky enough to go. DD went twice. Not an enormous amount of dance but brill, just brill. Enjoy!

Katymac Sun 27-Dec-15 20:25:07

Can't wait - I remember watching the film w1ith my Nana

spudmasher Sun 27-Dec-15 20:35:44

My favourite bit in the show was the burlesque ladies. Hilarious. I'm going to record it and watch in peace tomorrow morning. Way too noisy in my front room this evening to properly focus. Oh, god though, Mama Rose's final song- a little too close to the bone for me to comfortably listen to, as a stage mum. I cried at the theatre- snot and a red face from trying not to sob out loud. Luckily I was not the only one....

Katymac Sun 27-Dec-15 21:01:26

I may cry!

balletgirlmum Sun 27-Dec-15 21:03:08

Dd is being allowed to stay up.

Kingfisherfree Sun 27-Dec-15 21:03:41

What channel is it on I can't find it.

balletgirlmum Sun 27-Dec-15 21:03:41

Dd has been on that stage (only in a workshop)

Lizawithaz Sun 27-Dec-15 21:09:58

Thanks for the heads up OP, I'm now watching it

AnneEyhtMeyer Sun 27-Dec-15 21:10:49

I've missed the first ten minutes and have never seen it before - have I missed anything vital to the plot?

Savagebeauty Sun 27-Dec-15 21:11:50

Imelda Staunton is wonderful

Katymac Sun 27-Dec-15 21:12:29

No, Mother (Rose - had 3 husbands) puts both daughters on the stage

SorrelForbes Sun 27-Dec-15 21:13:04

Not really, the first scene is showing the girls, June and Louise auditioning for an kiddie vaudeville show with little success desire their pushy mother.

AnneEyhtMeyer Sun 27-Dec-15 21:13:49

I've always liked Imelda Staunton.

balletgirlmum Sun 27-Dec-15 21:14:16

Imelda is fabulous

Lj8893 Sun 27-Dec-15 21:23:16

Ah I wanted to watch this, but dh is watching something. A friend from college is in it, another friend from college was in the sound of music!

lorelei9 Sun 27-Dec-15 21:25:52

I'm recording it as I'm pooped and want to enjoy it properly when feeling awake

hoping Lara Pulver is in this, have I got that right? I love Imelda S too.

balletgirlmum Sun 27-Dec-15 23:18:24

That was superb

Savagebeauty Sun 27-Dec-15 23:19:17

Wasn't it?
I wish they'd do it with more shows

balletgirlmum Mon 28-Dec-15 00:16:14

Absolutely. They filmed Legally Blonde on Broadway & of course there was Billy Elliot Live but they should do it more.

Katymac Mon 28-Dec-15 00:27:39

It's made DD decide on DT rather than MT as she can't sing that well sad

CastaDiva Mon 28-Dec-15 00:34:21

I didn't see the broadcast, but I saw it during the run at the Savoy and - despite being a massive Imelda Staunton fan, and thinking she was very good - I didn't much care for it, rather to my own surprise. I think I'd expected it to be more Sondheim-y, despite knowing he only wrote the lyrics, not the music. I thought Peter Davison (Davidson?) was adequate and I didn't think Lara Pulver was good as Louise, which left it a one-woman show for me, and I found it a bit brassy and one-dimensional. I didn't leave inwardly humming tune for days, and having to look up the lyrics because I was annoying myself half-remembering....

spudmasher Mon 28-Dec-15 18:52:54

Katymac, remember the voice is like any other muscle- the more you practise the better you get. Plenty of time to exercise that muscle. Your DD will grace the west end stage in a big role- I'll put money on it!
