How can we stop DD's cornet gettting so 'spitty'?

I'm not sure if it's how she plays or a duff cornet, but DD has to blow through the spit every time she practices and when she plays sometimes it sounds awful (she can play!) DS plays trumpet and he never has a problem, in fact I don't think he's ever had to clear it through? any tips?

I think that is pretty normal? A trumpet is straighter, perhaps that is why he doesn't have an issue? Though I played a flute, straight as they come, and the whole section used to empty them out every now and again,

Note where each valves slide is and take them out one by one to empty any out from there.
Also turn the corner round following from the mouthpiece to the bell, so any in there will come out of the bell. Make sure that the spit valve is used. Another thing you could try is checking each valve itself by carefully screwing it, then you might as well oil them the same time.
Hope some of these help.

When DS used to play the cornet it got quite spitty - maybe it's a cornet thing as it was a bit better when he moved onto the trumpet.

And maybe she holds alot of fluid in her mouth - could she be sncouraged to keep swallowing and clear her mouth before she plays?

Thanks everyone - yes she empties it via the spit valve every time but it sometimes still sounds spitty afterwards. I wondered if it was because it's less straight than a trumpet. Was going to encourage her towards a trumpet when we have to buy one for her as they are cheaper, but she says her hands are too small! Will mention to her about swallowing
