I wasn't able to originally (sensory issues) but am starting to get used to it now.

I have ASD (awaiting assessment but pretty sure I do) and also possibly ADHD. I actually like wearing a mask. I like the cosy feel of it (I have ones made out of stretchy soft cotton) and also knowing that my face is covered and people can't really read my expressions. Not sure if that's a common reaction, but I know one of my dcs, who also has ASD, feels similar.

If it's a sensory thing with the mask, would it help to try different fabrics? Maybe you could try putting clothes made from different things next to your face and see if you prefer the feel of any of those fabrics?

the big diy ones are more comfortable as they are only in contact around the edge. I can't wear mine as I feel a plonker in it though.

I can but find it really hard. I don't know how much of it is my asthma and how much is my dyspraxia but all I can think about when it's on is that I don't like it. My depth perception (I think that's the right word, I can't see downwards because the mask gets in the way) goes to pot when I wear one and I'm worried I will fall over or drop something and not be able to see where it went. The relief when I can take it off is huge.

I tend to avoid places where I would have to wear one.

I avoided places where it was a requirement at first and just sent DP everywhere.

I am getting used to wearing one but find it so difficult to understand what people are saying as I usually look at people’s mouths when they talk to help me understand what they say. I’m so anxious as it takes me longer to process what is being said and I have to ask people to repeat it and then panic I won’t hear again.
