After a long waiting list I've got an appointment for my DISCO autism assessment appointment. I'm struggling at work (teaching) and feel hopeless.

Has anyone done the DISCO? What can I expect?

I had one a couple of years ago. Expect to talk..a lot! Mine took about 2 1/2 hours. She took history from childhood, like speech, physical difficulties, sensory issues, problems in school..asked about current issues - stuff like sensory needs, motor problems, planning. Then she put the data through the algorithm, came back and said yes I am autistic. I got a written report and she went through it with me.

I did sub-consciously try to mask to start with but couldn’t keep it up that long!

Hope it goes well for you.

I am going to train to do DISCO assessment and have sat in on some. It's basically a structured conversation. The assessor will drive it. They are likely to ask you both about your current functioning and about your recollections of play, socialising etc as a child. The assessor will be flexible, and will try to put you at ease.

Good luck, hope it goes well.

Thanks for the replied. I've already completed a pre-assessment questionnaire in that was quite detailed. I'm assuming their questions will be based on that. Can't wait for it to be done, it's been a long process.

I did the DISCO. My mother was with me and she did a lot of the talking! It was useful having her there as she was able to provide information about my early childhood.
